It seems odd that the NFL is set up on such an egalitarian basis. The draft system where the best young players go to the previous seasonís worst team, players traded rather than transferred, salary cap and shared merchandising money are all designed to stop the richest clubs dominating.

Did you have a line when to stop earning.
I think the stupid league was a bad bit of planning but with consultation and the promise of a % to all football associations for grass roots it could have been listened to. What would you think about capitalism then? Would it still be bad if they promised money for cancer,or homeless or your love the NHS. I'm afraid CP you do sometimes appear, and I may be wrong, but appear to be a very envious person. Capitalism is giving you and yours finance.
How much pension do you think they get in Cuba or rhodesia. If you bite the hand that feeds you eventually it won't go to the cupboard!

You have me all wrong the honourable member for medway, i"m not actually after a communist state, just a little fairer share of the spoils in our capitalist society, this was capitalism at its worst, do you think there is a red line at JP Morgan ? We have earned to much today gentlemen, lets call it a day. The fact that the chancellor has 2000 million in the bank says it all. Unfortunately, we are a bunch of cap doffers, know our place, so i won"t be holding my breath for anything to change, but jealous? No way , just don"t like getting mugged owf by a load of public school boys!

Imagine, if every season, all players lined up, school playground styly, and the 20 chairmen took one pick at a time, till all players gone, wouldn"t that be an exciting season to watch? They could share the sky money equally, as more people might even sign up, and we might benefit by been in a fairer system.

Bet Palace would end up with a choice between the overweight wheezy player and the skinny speccy one.

So share out the wealth. That does sort of mean socialism or communism whichever suits.
Sunak is rich but again its got nothing to do with anyone. Is it wrong that he's got money. I'm sure his philanthropy goes unnoticed. Would you prefer he shouted it from the rooftops for a pat on the back.

"Is Capitalism good for sport?"

It is better than the alternatives - as it is in general.

The USSR weren't bad at the Olympics, nor are China, but I do get your point.

I used to put the manager's name in front of Red and Blue but got fed up with changing it. If someone cool becomes our manager then maybe..

Red and Blue Army!

Funny, you are a devout capitalist, nothing wrong with that, but what i don"t understand is that you want to put barriers up in how much people can earn. The owners of the superleague clubs wanted to break away and earm mega bank, but you, a capitalist was against it. I would have thought you would say good luck to them, they are making bank and why ever not? For you to be against a businessman earning mega bucks does smell of hypocrisy my honourable member, how would you like someone to put a limit on your earnings? I sincerely feel, the member for Medway needs to stand in front of the house and explain, just how much he would like football club owners to earn each year? Explain how much is to much, and explain why has he a problem with club owners, capitalists to a man, making huge amounts of money for themselves, their families and their future generations, the member for Medway couldn"t be a tad jealous could he?

The USSR did it by drugs and 'training' that was akin to slavery. China now has a Capitalist economy under a one-party dictatorship - bit like Nazi Germany.

I realise the narrative of Russia being cheats and China kidnapping the kids and forcing them. However, when Communist parties ruled those countries, they had massive and expensive sports investments, coaching and infrastructure. I guess, in a way, you could wonder if totalitarian regimes are good for sports?
Interesting you mention Nazi Germany, of course Italy and they both owe even their current teams and relative success to their fascist leaders. They don't exactly highlight that fact, but there is plenty of historical research on it. Obviously, it seems Capitalism isn't necessarily the only way to have success at sports.
I don't really want to go into British Cycling, Lance Armstrong, Ben Johnson Irish medals and a million other drugs cheats before we get too hung up on who cheats at sports. I'm not saying Russia aren't cheats but their own narrative is actually along the lines of levelling the playing field. There is a modicum of truth in that.
