I hear the distant rumbling of French farmers and their tractors.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Followed by the sound of English bowmen stringing their bows and fletching their arrows. They'll be good too, as they all took part in a re-enactment of Agincourt for the 600th anniversary.

For a bit of balance for everyone, I always thought Agincourt a great story. Backs against the wall (trousers literally full of sh1t), with dysentery, against the cream of France.

I bet Agincourt gets tons more coverage than Bannockburn in English schools ? i bet French schools bang on about Martel at Tours a lot, and not so much about Waterloo ? Every Ulsterman has heard of the Battle of the Boyne, 1690....yet very few know about the Battle of Cambrai, which involved a hundred times more deaths. Cambrai was, up until just recently, in the living memory of some elderly's at retirement homes. History is written by the victors. Edited by PalazioVecchio (05 May 2021 4.36pm)

It's a good point but makes me wonder about German history. In France Waterloo doesn't exist - it's the Battle of St Jean or something like that.

in French schools, Joan of Arc was a warrior virgin Saint........and not just some crazy loon who was hearing voices and slapping the hands of every bloke who tried to fondle her small baps.
