I honestly passionately dislike this mindset.

How about this summer we pretend we are relegated. Balance the books like we were, released, buy, sell players like we were.

Then plan to win the 'championship', without breaking the bank and look at the 3 promoted clubs as the mini league... finish above them - after all they are championship teams..with a few additions..

With a stroke of luck, you don'r even realize the difference and each yeah improve on there squad, realistically.. at worse you get relegated.

Then, next season, if relegated you have a ready made strong champ team with an extra year of prem money.. you just add and improve on that you have.

In other words, do a Norwich?

You only enjoy Palace staying in the Premier so you can repeat the same old rubbish you repeat season after season.
Just give it a rest please.

If WUM translates as "Wind Up Merchant", I will respectfully state that you are totally and utterly wrong.

I have given my honest opinions and when I have been wrong I have been more than content to admit that I have erred.I am human after all!

I'm hoping for the best but prepared for the worst.

If we go down, so be it. It'll be a chance to regroup and, hopefully, return to the Prem leaner, meaner and stronger.

Also, if we do get relegated we'll then, again hopefully, have the excitement of actually winning something... promotion!

If I'm honest, I'm finding life in the Prem boring. We just tread water in mid table mediocrity, and, the 2016 FA Cup Final and beating the riff-raff from the South coast with a last minute winner after getting well and truly battered apart, not really achieving anything.

Many Charlton, Sunderland and Portsmouth supporters were hoping for the same!

My recollection is that comments were aimed my way which left me in NO doubt that I was viewed as a prophet of woe and certainly not a lighthouse of joy.

In all fairness you have predicted relegation every season and and defeat for every game so you can't wholly blame the comments.

I am not entirely certain that I have predicted relegation each and every season, nor defeat in every game but I fully accept that I have been less than optimistic about our chances of survival nor our prospects in each game so the "Elijah of doom" is perhaps an accurate description!

Not so much an expectation, more of a hope really. Was going to start a thread, but thought I'd ask the question here.

Does anyone know of plans to replace Kayla the Eagle next season?

Would hope so.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

next season - a tough slog, possibly our most perilous since first season up.
However the right new manager, a few astute signings & whos knows pretty steady with some better footy than whats been served up last few years ?
fingers crossed.

my expectations are that for next season we have a new progressive manager who will aim to evolve our style of football, we cut loose dead wood that doesn't fit the evolving style, and make a few intelligent signings which improve our first team. I'm less worried about league position (as long as it's above bottom 3) and more interested in us trying to play with an intention of what competitive sport and football should be, to put a bit of excitement and pride back in the team and fans.

I am quite sure that the priority will remain exactly as it has been under Roy. To remain in the Premier League by whatever means is needed. Our long term development demands that we do that. Expectations of excitement through a new playing style, whilst understandable, need to be tempered with realism. We need to find our excitement and pride in other ways. Going down whilst being admired for our style, would be a disaster.

For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally.

Quite. Lower divisions and insolvency courts littered with teams with similar aspirations.

Fortunately we have already been there and the management is not so naive to go there again

And yet the fans still rock up to watch.
Prem is good but loving your team is the real joy.
