I actually think he will be a great signing for us. Looked a good leader from WBA games i saw last season and kept his place with the change of manager. 30 is a good age for a centre back who need to have some experience.

Bartley is a reliable , experienced central defender who is dominant in the air in both boxes.
If we release 3 experienced central defenders in Cahill, Dann and Sakho we will clearly need to bring in some experience.
Tomkins picks up a lot of injuries and it’s an area we have a clear need to strengthen.

Bartley is a good talker, organiser and a leader but he is 30 and last season was the first that he was a regular starter in the PL.

I wouldn’t necessarily see him as a starter but a valuable squad player.
To lose Dann, Cahill and Sakho all at once is a lot of experience to depart , and this would be compounded if Ward, Clyne and PVA leave too.
That’s potentially six experienced defenders leaving in one summer.
Of course a few may stay on, but no news has emerged to that effect.

While 3m isn’t a lot of money in today’s game, I just don’t see this being what we are looking for. The rumours about Nelsson seem closer to what we are likely looking for…I’d argue if Bartley was simply coming to sit on the bench then we’d be better off keeping Cahill or Dann.

A lot younger than Dann, who is finished in the Premier, no pace. Cahill is now to injury prone. Bartley a good squad player, you can’t get loads of youngsters in, you need some experience.

Sort of agree.

But Cahill - who I'd keep anyway - is a very short term prospect and Dann is due a huge thank you and goodbye.

Bartlett isn't a spring chicken but has a 3 year contract in him. Think it largely comes down to where PV sees Kouyate playing next season. If he's back in midfield then two senior CBs (Bartlett and Cahill) is the way I'd go. Tomkins is class but fragile.

I see him as a no brainer at £3m. Solid squad player, experience of getting out of the Championship if that were ever to happen. Adds a bit of experience and easily has the legs for a 3 year contract.

Does the role Dann did last year but better.
