I really don't see that it benefits the 'bigger' clubs any more than the smaller ones. Instead of (up to) 7 they can now both have up to nine, which means both teams can add 2 players to cover 2 more positions if necessary. The quality of the players that would be available to either teams remains the same, and they can both only use up to 3.

The bigger clubs have more expensive "stars" in their 25 man squad than the lower placed clubs, so not only can they pack their original 11 starters with expensive "stars" the more substitutes that are allowed the more "stars" they can put on the subs bench which further disadvantages the lower placed clubs who didn't even have 11 "stars" to fill the original 11 starters let alone the bench.

But that's my point - they can fill the bench with however many superstar subs they are allowed, but they can still only use 3 max, who would have been superstar subs anyway.

The rest just fill up the places with whatever they've got available, as usual.
