Reduced the age, removed the deadwood and improved the squad.

There are gaps. Edouard will hopefully fill one. Eze and Olise eventually others. But don't forget the youth to fill at least one other.

9/10.

On the whole I think it's been one of our best windows. Plenty of dead wood jettisoned, although I'd have liked Andros to be around a bit longer.

The new players who have been brought in will no doubt strengthen the squad and they have the potential to deliver youthful excitement to the way PV wants to see us play. Difficult to know from the wide range of rumours and gossip who we have really been seriously considering, but for instance the choice between Edouard and Nketiah looks like ending with the former coming on board. Personally I would have preferred Nketiah, but our pockets are not deep enough yet.

In general I'm not a fan of loans unless there is an option to buy, however Gallagher has already shown what he can offer us for a year. Unfortunately, especially if his form continues to flourish, it's very unlikely we'll be able to keep him. Make hay and all that. We're still able to take one more loanee, so possibly not finished yet.

All in all, we're younger, fitter and a better side to watch already. 2 points from 3 games ain't bad at all and PV now has the international break to develop all the players, established and new alike.

Confident of a good season.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Unfortunately for us Everton had a sudden need and decided to sign him for cover for a player who will not be available for a while otherwise I think he would have re-signed.

No so sure. Looked like we released him before Everton made any real interest concrete.

Football's a funny old game, innit? The likes of us Palace fans expect the money to "come from somewhere", and we are quite happy when it does so. But what we despise are clubs that have much more money than us - money which also "came from somewhere".

I was glancing at Twitter when Man City signed Grealish and there were numerous Man Utd fans (well, pretend fans) slagging off City because of the amount of money they've got to hand and the fact that it comes from a dodgy source (ie something to do with oil). Ergo Man Utd fans are quite happy with obscene amounts of cash to splash out on players, provided it's their club that has it and not someone else's.

Success is at least 90% about money in the Premier league. Any morality attached to that went out of the window long ago. Take the £480 mill PW to Ronaldo,
It’s a sad fact of how money not only manipulates the game it’s self, but the moral compass regarding money of those that follow the fortunes of various clubs, If it didn’t have such a baring on the standard on the pitch, it might not be so powerful but on the whole it does.

Rating 8/10 (including the Edouard deal)

Delighted to have cleared out the squad of +30 year old high earners. These players had zero transfer value and declining ability. The incomers are young, decent amount of 1st team footy all and purchased for less than their transfer value. We now have some saleable assets should we want to sell & reinvest in the future.

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to think we have a top 10 first XI once all are fit.

Deducted 2 points as we need another winger (preferably loan to cover until Eze and Olise are back) and full backs are weak.

For the long-term, an excellent widow. Short-term, I’m not too sure.

- Olise is fit to play in a matter of weeks not months
- Edouard on board and Mateta let go.

Then:-

1. GKs - no change
2. Defence - stronger
3. Midfield - Definitely stronger
4. Striking - stronger

Where we're weaker (and where we've traditionally been reliant) is in the wide areas. We haven't really replaced PVA or Townsend which reduces a lot of our threat down the left and right.

If we can secure one more quality signing (maybe a loan?), either as an attacking full-back or an out and out winger, I think this window will have been as good as we could have hoped for and quite a bit better than most would have expected.

And I quite like the cut of PV's jib as well.

100% agree. If we could have kept PVA and Andros our squad would be looking pretty balanced.

You can only assume as we haven't brought in a LB cover there is a plan for that. Jeff, Ward, Clyne?
