I cannot understand some of the panic over fullbacks,
Clyne is a perfectly good RB for this season and Ward as back up, Imray is a highly rated under 23

LB i would make schlupp LB with cover for Mitchell and Hannam

Ferguson if he ever gets fit has played more games games for WBA at LB than RB

I Think next summer window a RB may be needed to replace Clyne

“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn

Totally agree. In my opinion, not an area which needed too much attention given what we have, what's coming through and the versatility of various members of our squad.

Agree that it wasn't the biggest priority, so we right to start elsewhere.

But in the modern game the full backs are such an important part of a teams attacking options.

Ferguson and Clyne might be our best bet when fully fit

I can’t say I agree, although I’m most definitely not ‘panicking’ about it!

Neither full back, who have played for us this season, are good enough for the Premier League. Clyne may be ok but wasn’t selected ahead of Ward for much of last season and I see no evidence yet this season to believe that is likely to change. Ward has been great for us but is way off the pace and standard required now and really doesn’t fit the system and style that PV wants to play. Mitchell just isn’t up to it, simple as that and neither is Hannam judging by the U23 games I’ve seen last season and this.

I think all of this could change if/when Ferguson gains his full fitness as I see him occupying one of the full back positions and being excellent for us and adding to the defensive resilience/strength given us by the Guehi & Andersen acquisitions.

I think the key to things was shown the other night at Watford. Tomkins played RB & JW switched to LB. Tomkins filled in for long periods at RB when he was at West Ham. This would be the short term fix if we encounter problems with injuries. In the longer term Ferguson should be fit soon and can play/cover either of the full back positions.

It looks like Palace have prioritised other areas in this window.

At right back I think there is little to choose between Ward and Clyne. Both will be needed over the course of the season. Those relying on Ferguson to be the long term solution, well his career has obviously suffered a severe setback with his injuries. Given that he hasn't had the opportunity to show what he can do, I'm not making the assumption that he's the answer.

Over at left back I think we do have some exposure. Mitchell is still learning his craft and there isn't an experienced LB to come in if we need to take him out of the firing line. At the moment Hannam is a good example of a young player going through a sticky patch and nowhere near the level required for the first team.My guess is that we would shuffle the pack should Mitchell not be available - as pointed out, Schlupp has done a job there before and I think Guehi could also be an option

The club clearly believe Mitchell and Ferguson could be the long term answer, and buying now means we:

a) risk not finding out if that is the case
b) divert money from elsewhere (all of our signings so far look desperately needed)

I can see why the club wanted to wait.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a free agent came in at left back (right is probably okay - just?) in a few days time?

Watch out for Danny Imray. Young right back who is off the radar at the moment as he is still recovering from an ankle injury. He will be a top player.

People seem to have forgotten that Riedewald did a good job at LB, personally I'd prefer him to Schlupp in that position should we need to take Mitchell out of the firing line.

Strange that you rate someone who has never put on a Palace shirt or made a single appearance above both our full backs.

It looks like to me from what I have seen of him that player has gone Roy has destroyed him.

Roy always kept going on about changing him and the player was meeting the challenge well he did now he looks awful taken away what made him different.

He is still young and it may be possible he can change again but it would take time plus games which I just don't see happening also Palace coaching staff its not really top rate is it.

Another area which really needs big improvements
