I got the impression from when she first broke onto the scene that she has talent but maybe not mental strength. Apparently she has earned $20m well good luck to her but she never seems bothered when she loses.

Nothing has changed my opinion it maybe that as she matures she will regret the wasted opportunity.

As for her going out in the first round that was obvious the way she was complaining in the days leading up to the start of the tournament.

I hope she wises up talent is rare and shouldn't be wasted.

I started this thread a year ago because I was smitten by the way she played, and eventually won, the US Open. Her tennis was quite remarkable.

But, boy, has she hit the buffers. Won virtually nothing since although she's made a huge amount of money with sponsorship deals.

Surely the sponsors will lose interest if she doesn't regain some form. It's going to take a lot of effort for her to start winning and I'm beginning to think she'll just be a one hit wonder.

Very possibly. But she's still won more Grand Slam tournaments than any of the people who are now sneering at her. And if she really is a one-off winner, she's still set for life so fair play to her.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

Haha, yes, that's very true Cucking. I guess that even if her sponsors desert her, she'll still have enough money left to have a good life (if she uses it wisely).

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

With the ranking points now gone from winning the US Open she is likely to be ranked somewhere in the 80’s in the world which will mean she will not be seeded and likely to get tougher draws - could easily tumble out of the top 100 and need to enter qualifying tournaments before making the first round even.

I started this thread in September 21, just after she won the US Open in amazing style. It looked like we had ourselves a new starlet to knock the socks off the tennis world.

But, what a mess her career has turned out to be. She's made a fortune out of luxury goods endorsements, although injury has plagued the game that set her on the road to fame and fortune. Now she's had to withdraw from the Miami Open due to a lower back injury. She looks as fragile as a Ming vase.

Does anyone else think her tennis career is over now?

My comments from Sept 22 hold true. She doesn't seem bothered about her career at least that's the impression she gives the media.

Anyway she has made her pile so I guess she is happy but may regret it later.

Waste of a career.

She should have never fired her coach after she won the US Open. I get that there's higher profile names out there, but this is the person that trained you to win, at least wait until you lose a few.
