Impressed with his attacking play but it quickly became obvious that he didn’t want to tackle to get the ball back when Leicester had won it.

He will need to improve his defensive play or we will suffer.

Wilf was saying that Vieira has told him to forget his out-and-out defensive duties so he receives the ball higher up the pitch, so perhaps Olise, with us trailing behind, was under instructions to stay up top.

Olise looked very promising yesterday. Great composure, accurate passing and great vision. Moved the ball quickly and had a lovely touch, his instinctive finish of that rebound was quality.

I like the way he looked so assured and never rushed. He did show signs of that effortless Eze ‘glide’ too.

As has been mentioned above, it definitely takes the pressure off rushing Eze back too soon and the prospect of Olise playing in front of a fully fit Ferguson is simply mouthwatering![/quote]

His never even played for us and has been injured for 2 years how is it mouthwatering ?

I think it's called blind hope. I'm sure every Palace fan suffers from it from time to time.

One aspect of Wilf's defensive work has doubled this season. His pressing stats are way up on last season. He is defending but he's doing it in a different part of the pitch!

Generally think it's oversimplistic to say his defensive duties are less - rather his role has evolved with our new patterns of play. We absolutely dominated Leicester in possession and territory as we did Brighton for much of the match. When this is the case it really doesn't add up to make comparisons with the flat 4s we played under Roy.

There's also a good solid logic to this approach of course as players such as Wilf - and let's assume - Olise are not particularly well equipped for wide mid defensive duties such as tackling but with their speed are supremely well equipped to harass in pressing.

Because having followed the Baggies Forum since we were first rumoured to be interested in him and having watched a lot of footage of his performances for West Brom, he is quite clearly an outstanding and exciting attacking Full Back (who can also play in the centre of defence).

He is fast, powerful, skilful, strong in the tackle and whilst Joel is an outstanding defender, Ferguson displays attacking qualities and distribution that are in a different league to our current right back. He also looks just as comfortable playing at Left Back and cutting inside, thus adding to his value and versatility.

Ferguson is 20 years old (compared to Ward who is 31) A Fully Fit Ferguson playing at full back linking up with the likes of Zaha, Eze, Olise, Gallagher & Edouard is hard to describe as anything other than ‘Mouthwatering’!

Do we mind, or even care what country he represents at International level. Seems he could choose one of four countries. He reportedly favours Algeria.

I'm hoping he eventually elects to play for England.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The issue for us is the Afcon happens during the season, so if he declares for an African side - we lose him for a month. We will already be losing Wilf, Ayew and a couple more (Schlupp?). Slightly worrying for January.

I used to put the manager's name in front of Red and Blue but got fed up with changing it. If someone cool becomes our manager then maybe..

IMO his decision should be about which country he feels most affinity to, or which he would be most proud to represent. I have no idea what it feels like to have such a mix of nationalities in your locker, but I'd assume that you lean towards some more than others.

But like it or not Ayew is still going to play a significant role in the team this season so maybe try and recognise the good that he does bring to the team and support him?

I think Ayew is our second best CF behind Edouard, certainly better the Benteke in our current set up, a good man to bring on with 15mins to go, holding up and winning free kicks and slowing the play down, but apart from Olise. Gallagher, Clyne and Rak-sakyi would do better they all have pace and can take their fullback on.

I'm just being selfish for the sake of Palace. I get annoyed when we lose players to the Afcon, but it's just one of those things. Obviously anyone should choose the country they prefer, not entirely sure it works that way though. There are rumours of payments and sweeteners, it could be legal for all I know. Not that there's anything dodgy about any football associations whatsoever.

So a player with no goals in his last 33 games - that’s what 5 short of a full season is our 2nd best centre forward..!!

Benteke on the other hand scored 10 from 30 games last season - I’m just interested how you justify your statement given the stats.

I’m not saying Benteke shouldn’t be doing better - think we all agree he should be, but Ayew the better option as second striker - no way..!! Did you see the sitter he missed against Brighton..!!

Personally I’m not sure what Ayew is - other than a lot of huff and puff and running up blind alleys - allied to which seems to be a real attitude and an ego way beyond the end product..!!

What is for sure is that the introduction Olise in his place against Leicester changed the game - so Ayew won’t be playing wide right anytime soon again..!!

IMO Ayew is now just a bench player and could well go in January - if that comes to pass I for one won’t be shedding any tears..!!
