I'm really impressed by his play. If he sharpens up on converting some of the 'half-chances', we could have a star on our hands.

For someone who's only played 8 games in the PL in his career, he's doing really well. I reckon he'll be converting more of those half chances before too long.

Given the adjustments that he has had to make - higher standard of football, new team, different role - I think he's doing really well.

What I like most about him is his positivity in possession. Always looking to play forward.

I was at the game and thought Olise made a real difference when he came on; his presence gives much more balance down the right side and he was a real handful for their full back along with being diligent with his defensive work. Would be surprised if he doesn't start the next match. A really fantastic player in the making.

Great result tonight but I thought this bloke was a disgrace when he came on. I can forgive the miss as he's not been getting much game time but to come on against City with 25 mins to go and desperately trying to keep the clean sheet just to jog around and not challenge at all is disgusting. I felt so sorry for Mitchell having to deal with both players on their right and he done unbelievably to cover for Edouard who didn't want to know. Looking at the way Gallagher chased down that ball in the 92nd minute just made me even angrier with Edouard. He should have had more energy than anyone else on that pitch.

I totally agree with this. I felt like not posting as it was such a good performance overall. But to see Edouard aimlessly jogging about really annoyed me.

Granted he probably doesn’t love playing on the left but if this is the indicative of his level of commitment then I’m happy we are starting with Mateta up top.

I’m not arguing against these comments I completely understand the sentiment and reasoning behind them just wanted to offer a different perspective.

Edouard to me still looks as though he’s struggling with his identity and place at the club. He may well not fully understand his role and the expectations of it.

I’d suggest there’s a slight difference between having a functioning role to play off the bench against City opposed to starting each and every game for a club with a massive stadium and fan base etc just expecting to bang in goals against St. Who’s it or North Kilttown FC for fun.

I could very well be completely wrong I accept that but lads still young and definitely has something to offer and I think it would be a very exciting prospect if he does eventually settle find his place and confidence going forward. I’m willing to give him that chance but understand frustrations.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Mateta looks awkward at times, but his work rate alone makes him an automatic start over Edouard and Benteke. Like others have said, Edouard should have had the freshest legs of anyone on the pitch when he came on, but he didn't look it.

The one time he had the ball with a chance to score, he bottled it. I still think Edouard could be useful, but he needs to start showing it or else I agree with him being on the bench most of the time.

And actually, I'd be fine with selling him in the offseason, and trying someone new. He really hasn't shown enough this season.
