I have been mightily impressed by his persona. For someone who achieved so much as a player he seems a humble man and not the type to leave a club in the lurch.

Left New York City for Nice, left New York in the lurch.

After two and a half years to take up a good offer at a higher level in his home country, not exactly Steve Bruce is it? Jeez.

‘New York City vice-chairman Marty Edelman said Patrick Vieira has "been a fantastic role model and a true leader on and off the field"’

The statement was left in the lurch, he did despite how many years he was there. To say he isn’t that sort of person, isn’t true, he will do the same, if a better job comes along, most managers do.

Except that is not a definition of ‘left in the lurch’, what Bruce did is pretty much the dictionary definition. What Vieira did at New York, leaving them in a much healthier position than when he arrived and with the apparent blessing of the New York owners is almost the complete opposite.

Replacement for Vieira - Gareth Southgate after the next World Cup.

Crumbs, no! Not a Premier League quality manager by any stretch of the imagination.

Nice bloke, done a decent job of getting the media behind the national team, but tactically poor. Our golden era of players will be wasted again in Qatar whilst he's at the helm. Same mould as Solskjær.

Odd thread, but I'll entertain it. If he goes soon, I'd like Gerard. He can then do well and replace Klopp after a run of two wins.

I think we all know by now that loyalty in football sadly isn't quite as we would wish it to be.

Despite that, call me naive but for some reason I have PV down as a fairly honourable person.

I find it hard to believe he would leave in the next 18 months and I also believe he is really enjoying the project.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

I agree and get the feeling he really believes he can achieve great things at Palace until the end of his contract when, inevitably, one or two top clubs will come calling.

I really don't like this thread, but accept it was started as a bit of fun. What I do like is seeing Roy speak highly of PV and confirm that, in his view, his appointment was a stroke of genius. [Link]

He might not have got us playing exciting football, but the man kept us up and will always be one of our own..... and, of course, is a true gentleman.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Unsurprisingly gracious. Football was painful to watch last season, but did exactly what was asked, and provided the platform for change for this season. At least you guys were spared having to pay to watch it in person.

Oh and on my way home this evening I met Chicken Licken who has reliably informed me the sky is falling in.

You've got a point there. It is troubling situation. I'm a bit more concerned though about the manager after that. How will we be able to hold on to him if he's any good? Worrying times ahead methinks.

When PV moves on he will have left us in a better shape than before his arrival.

I wonder how many of those managers who were not interested or turned us down are now regretting that decision. It seems little old Palace were not a basket case all it needed was a good manager and some choice signings.
