If you are a Labour supporter, how do you view the defection of Wakeford whose anti Labour rhetoric was profane and he vocally supported a bill to force MP's who crossed the house to have a by election.

Surely a lot of nose holding

Does it automatically trigger a by-election?
I hope so - treacherous git!

Morally he may feel he has done the right thing (by defecting).
And after all, voters voted for a candidate, not necessarily a party.
The morally correct thing to do (by his own standards) would be to have a by-election.

What I don't get is why defect when you can just resign the whip and be independent? He may have been offered a deal by Starmer, or he has walked that road to Damascus.

That is the point, did they vote for him or to get Brexit done?

Almost every interview I have seen with a voter in Bury South is in favour of a by election. The local Labour party is really peed off. They want a by election they will win with their own candidate not have to accept a turncoat who was very damning of Labour in the last election.

If it was a protest against Boris he just had to write a letter to the 1922 committee.

He will reap what he has sown in due course, absolute self serving hypocrite, hang on........he's a politician

Which is wrong.

If a candidate stands on the platform of one party and then switches a by election should be compulsory.

In this instance the Tories obviously would like a by election but also the media are saying that the local Labour party activists would as well as they don't like their new MP.

It appears to be a career ending move, apparently the local Labour Party want nothing to do with him.

I would be interested to see a poll on whether votes are cast for a candidate or party. I have to profess I always voted based on party until they put that idiot Gimar or whatever his name was in my constituency when I abstained.

This happened with the Lib Dems and a Remain Tory MP. He was welcomed with open arms by the Leadership but the local party was furious. Their candidate only just lost last time and they were confident they could unseat the hated Tory MP who suddenly becomes their party MP.
