He'd be a great addition... but only a permanent would be worthwhile in my eyes.

Agree has to be a permanent. Hopefully with no buy back clause. Deal similar to Guehi would be ideal where they can match a bid we accept .

Evening everyone,

I am going to post updates on here as soon as I get them & when my work allows, I am not asking you to believe everything I put but will post for those that are interested:

As off tonight I have been told the following:

Cheick Doucoure - Done Deal 5yr deal - €20m
Sam Johnston - Done Deal 5yr deal - Free

We are very interested in the following:

Lewis o’Brien - £12m
Joe Aribo - £15m
Chris Richards - £10m
Levi Colwill - £10m
Emmanuel Dennis - £20m
Ibrahim Sangare - £25m
AWB - Loan with obligation to buy £25m
Ola Aina - £10m

We will not get all of these obviously as some are 1st & 2nd choices but I would expect 3 of these on top of the 2 confirmed.

It’s great to see that we have a clear plan & strategy

Luka & Benteke likely to move on. Kouyate could also go wants a 2yr deal we have currently only offered a 1yr deal.

Blow me down no mention of Ebiowei.

Clearly a super secret project not to be disclosed to scouts from other clubs who no doubt follow Dazzza's its pronouncements.

We seem to be after [ and got ] a lot of midfield and defensive players what we really need is a goal scoring forward

Mateta is a goal-scoring forward, I think the question is around other parts of his play. Last season he had a goal every 230 minutes and that is pretty much his record throughout his career. If he is our main striker from the start next season I think he'll bag 12-15 goals. Wilf also scores regularly. If we have a solid pairing at the base of the midfield then Olise and Eze might also get more freedom.

If Bentenke or Edouard were to go then I think we might sign another centre-forward/striker, but otherwise I don't think we will. A club our size can't afford to have four senior PL strikers when we only play one.

Disagree.

Currently our central midfield options are Hughes, Riedewald, Luka, plus McArthur who is picking up injuries more regularly and Schlupp who plays more on the left. Kouyate looks off, CG is gone, Luka and Riedewald out of favour. We are critically short in central midfield - If Hughes gets an early injury we're in crisis mode.

Defensively, we seem to be sending Adaramola out on loan. With Kouyate and Kelly off, we're very short of cover if any of Guehi, Andersen or Mitchell get an injury. If Vieira wants to play 3 at the back, we have to buy a CB.

Up front, where we tend to play one forward, we could play Benteke, Edouard, Mateta, Zaha, Ayew, Plange, Ebiowei...... We then have Olise, Eze, Rak-Sakyi also available for attacking areas. There isn't a player on the market who is clearly better than them who is available for less than £40m (example: Gabriel Jesus)

A central striker doesn't seem to be a priority position for us because of the existing options that we have and also because to get somebody guaranteed to be better than our existing options would be likely to be outside our budget.
The exception to this may have been Nketiah who we had a long standing interest in and who would have been available as an out of contract option had he not recently signed a contract.
Similarly right back doesn't seem a priority position in that we have options in Ward, Clyne and possibly Ferguson.
However, if AWB became available on favourable terms I could still seeing us making a move because he would be an improvement on what we have available.
If an opportunity presents itself in the market, even if not in a priority postion, I could see us pursuing it because you don't know if that opportunity will arise in the future.

To be fair he did mention Ebiowei a couple of times very early

the plan at this club seems to follow the MoSCoW managment which seems perfectly reasonable to me.

Last year:
Must haves: defenders, Winger
Should-haves: a new striker,
Could have: new attacking midfielder
Will not have: Full Backs

this year
Must haves: Freshen up midfield/CDM, RB/WB,
Should-haves: CB Cover, Keeper
Could have: attacking Midfielder
Will not have: new striker

seems to me that we dealt with the Attacking/Striker position last summer, now it's fairly low priority, as other positions are more important,

Sorry, with respect, that's total tosh. He's woefully inept at this level and we absolutely HAVE to bring in another if we want to move forward. In an ideal world, someone like Mateta is a 3rd choice striker who you thrown on as a hail mary.

24th in the Premier League last season for goals per 90 minutes suggests he isn't woefully inept.

Ahead of Jesus, Toney, Bowen, Richarlison, Watkins, Ings, Raphinha, Maupay, Antonio ....

Serious question - how much do you think the club would need to spend to buy a forward who is a clear upgrade on the 3 we have, and, assuming the club has £30m set aside for Doucoure and Aribo, how would you raise those additional funds for a forward of that calibre?

Who are you not signing, and/or who are you selling?

He is not woefully inept at this level. Can you produce evidence to substantiate your claim
