try to cut a long story short here, so here goes..
Just before the initial covid lockdown we made the final payment on a villa, 2 weeks holiday.
we booked villa, flights seperate so no ABTA cover there.
anyway once the covid hoohaa had blown over & travel possible our villa was no longer available, so with very few choices with all & sundry going on holiday we booked another that was about £600 less.
they (Solmar villas) are refusing point blank to refund balance (even though in my view we've played ball and accepted a differnt villa)
theyve offered a credit until end next year but we dont go on holiday every year, as im self employed it can vary from a couple of times in 1 year then nothing for 5 years.
Also we've had a look and little is available anyway.
I'm going to speak to solicitor anyway but wondered if anybody else has 1st hand knowledge / similar experience?
KD.

Maybe ask if the credit can be transferred to friends or sold on. The company won’t lose and you can get most of your dough back. I’m sure if they agree you could go on face book and sell it for say £500. Then someone is saving a ton and you get most of it back. Solicitor will cost you a lot more as small print might come into play. These guys arnt doing their first rodeo

There's only two viable solutions to disputes.

1. Sainsbury's car park

2. A van with some boys

On a practical note, the fact they've offered a Credit Note is somewhat of an acceptance that you've done the correct thing and you are out of pocket.
The fact it is a Credit Note and not cash, might be claused in the small print. I think a lot of holiday companies do that, because they have a difficult cash-flow practice.

I'd be pushy and ask for (if not the whole balance) see what they can offer in a cash settlement. I've never found Citizens Advice to be helpful, but there may be other advice outlets on internet.

They should refund the balance for sure.
Talk to an expert but with everything covid that has gone on they really should be flexible.

Is it really worth the hassle and stress? having no stress is priceless!

But hate the way those companies can get away with things like that!

you are correct.

if it was only £100 or so, we'd write it off, but 500-600 seems a lot, especially as we'd played ball regarding the change of accomodation.
As FH mentioned, we'd most likelyy accept a meet half way cash settlement.
wont drive ourselves nuts over it though.

Been looking this up - there are options.

Don't know if these are helpful.

From all angles would be exactly my approach.

If a friend/family member etc could put it to good use that would be the best solution were I in that position.

I'd wait until back for a scathing TripAdvisor, Google et al review however.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!
