That was a team of a lifetime, though. The winning Youth Cup finals featured players the quality of Sansom, Fenwick, Gilbert, Nicholas, Murphy. MacKenzie and Hilaire. Some people might have three of those in an all-time top Palace X!

Hmm. Not sure about Fenwick, but the others were exceptional. I used to love watching that side.

Well said.

Indeed.

As a sporting institution this has to be correct.

However as a business the academy is primarily a nursery feeding the all dominant 1st XI. This will only change if the youth games become financially viable in their own right.

Fenwick was never that popular at Palace but he won 20 caps for England - though he probably wished he had missed out on the Argentina one! I'd settle for one of the current U21s being that successful

I was one who didn't rate him when he was with us. I can remember one particular game when he was at left half and didn't seem to have a clue what he should be doing. Hardly touched the ball and was regularly by=passed by the opposition. I remember being in the Arthur that day. Can't remember who we were playing.

His goals against Swindon looked good. Is there any video yet of the game against Spurs u21? I can’t find any (except, strangely, in the Spurs website…)

Just watched it on You Tube.

I stand to be corrected, but hasn't Gordon had some injury issues in recent years? I am a great believer that for a forward it is all about confidence, so maybe it's not the worst idea in the world to give the kid 5 or 10 minutes on Saturday.

With regard to the idea of academies, personally I think it goes beyond the success of the club but also relates to the success of the community. Growing up me and my mates always looked at that ambition of a scout picking us up. Some of them made it (albeit none of my mates progressed beyond the youth teams).

Parish is clearly targeting the local community for sourcing talent both for the youth teams and the first team which will surely be good for the local area as it gives something positive to aim for. That's what happens when you have a local lad as your chairman. We feel like a real family club at the moment and in the long run you can't help but feel that strong sense of identity will pay dividends. I

He’s not involved in the under 21 game against hertha Berlin tonight, I wonder if he has been training with the first team with a view to a bench spot on Sunday.

Adamorola played tonight against Hertha Berlin.

Played at Dulwich a 1-0 for us, 'Mola' the scorer.
