In North Korea when a leader dies they have hours of drivel on TV about how wonderful the late, unelected, leader was and all cultural and sporting activities are stopped.

Such a thing could never happen in the democratic West, could it?

Please show some respect. HM served this country with respect and dignity your comparison is not worthy.

I am a republican but I still can recognise a good person with devotion to duty.

I am not talking about the person. I am talking about the absurd system. If you are a republican you should be able to understand the difference.

In South London, this fella was murdered by a drugs gang, 29 years ago. And every month i still read a new news-story about it.....

The news-journalists are watched by the Editors. But who watches the editors ? and who watches the paymasters ?

So you were in North Korea when the last leader died? Otherwise, you are of course spouting uninformed BS from a position of ignorance.

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

People still talk about where they were when Kennedy was shot.

When someone of importance dies there is always a process. I was about 5 but I still remember Churchill's state funeral.

To make your point it wasn't necessary to make a comparison with a blood thirsty tyrant.

The last time we experienced an occasion like this was probably when Churchill died. It's hardly a regular occurrence and its a shame some people can't be more respectful.

Me too.I remember the cranes in the docks all dipping down in tribute. It was a very different world back then.

I respect all people and have sympathy when someone dies but this toadying is ridiculous and pathetic.

Or it is genuine sentiment and respect for a remarkable woman who's been a constant in all our lives for so long.
Personally I think things so far have been done with great dignity as opposed to the weird outpouring of emotion when Diana died.

i agree.

some tribute and 'toadying' is a bit pathetic.

Eamon DeValera sent a funeral wreath to the German people upon the death of their leader in May 1945.
