Do not believe we will be so woeful against an improving Southampton as we were against Everton,so going for another 2-1 home win.

RIP Dad, i will miss you terribly, at least you dont have to watch the Palace any more |

Hard to call games these days, really depends on which Palace turn up. There seems to be an acknowledgement of the spineless display against Everton. A reaction to that and we win, PV gets cut some slack and all seems rosy once again. Another poor performance and we'll see a loss, perhaps a bad one, yet more concern and perhaps slightly louder rumblings. I'm gonna say 2-1 Palace although that's almost exclusively based on blind optimism and hope than any sincere thought.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Our home record against Southampton has been poor since our return to the PL. We lost 3 in a row in Roy's first 3 years and scraped a 1-0 win during the lockdown (mostly due to Guaita's heroics as I recall) and a draw last season. It will be another tough and tight game. Whilst I'm hoping for a win, I think the best we'll get is a score draw. Other teams know where we're weak and unless PV beefs up midfield with a change of system (4-2-3-1 seems the best option with Hughes or Jairo as the other '2' alongside Doucoure - it worked a treat for Villa against Brentford, allowing their attacking players the licence to attack). For me, then I'd like to see: Ward Andersen Guehi Riedewald/Mitchell Doucoure Hughes/Riedewald Olise Eze Zaha Edouard

Who has never scored, or hasn't scored for a season? They're a shoe in to score against us.

Ward Andersen Guehi Riedewald/Mitchell Doucoure Hughes/Riedewald Olise Eze Zaha Edouard I think that is the setup most of us want to see, but the question is who sits alongside Doucoure. I really want Jairo to succeed, but against a high pressing team like Saints he is too slow. Last season Hughes put in some strong performances but he was poor in preseason and we haven't really seen him this one; is there an issue there, or has he just fallen out of favour? Luka should be nowhere near the first team. If Hughes is ready I'd give him the nod, but otherwise (and I say this begrudgingly) maybe we just play Schlupp alongside CD as at least he is quick, is good in the air and adds an attacking threat. Edit: sorry, going against the grain, I'd also start Ayew ahead of Olise. Ayew is a pain and won't stop running, even if he lacks Olise's technical ability. MO needs to learn how to get more involved in games as he can just drift out onto the wing and disappear. Gordon in the last game was a good example of how to mix it up.
