Yes absolutely ours from around the time it was released. Kids banged on the hoardings at the front of the terraces when it was originally played.

I think Blackpool sing or sang it for a time. At the end of the day it is a song and the fans can't copyright it like Liverpool seem to have with You'll Never Walk Alone.

Thanks for all this history, but I was being sarcastic. Actually hypocritical, as we sang a crap version of the Geordie anthem, Blaydon Races, for years (Palace Aces indeed!).

I met the widow of Mike Smith (who co-wrote it with Dave Clark) in a pub in Hove one night. She was an arsenal fan while the Dave Clark 5 were all Tottenham. She was in the away section in the Arthur with Arsenal for an evening game a good few years ago and was surprised and delighted to hear Palace singing Glad All Over after we'd scored. Her surprise and delight turned to disappointment however when she found out she couldn't claim any royalties from us.
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |
