Premier League clubs have today collectively agreed to withdraw gambling sponsorship from the front of clubs’ matchday shirts, becoming the first sports league in the UK to take such a measure voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising. About time too I have been calling for this for years. Does not take effect till 2025 however.

About time. I like a gamble but I am uncomfortable with the blanket advertising on TV before the 9pm watershed.

Unbelievable the amount of gambling advertising on TV when I tune in for the football or even watching something on Discovery (Late night TV is sponsored by BetFred or some other BS)

we all know somebody destroyed by gambling. when the addiction grabs a hold of people, its worse than drink, drugs, or whatever else. On the one hand, i laud the attempts to curtail gambling. On the other , the dice are in the hands of the gambler....regardless of what regime or epoch he lives in.

Hopefully it will lead to cutting out the betting advertising on the illuminated pitch side advertising boards too - I have never been a gambler, most I ever did was as a young un a £1 to win on a horse in the grand national once a year & even then I needed someone to help me fill in the betting slip - But I remember circa being back in the UK circa 2000 (ish) & visiting my brother - on a sat morning he & his kid were watching Saturday soccer special (or whatever it was called back then) talking about the gambling odds on the result of the Millwall game & first scorer etc, & they placed a couple of small bets on an app in the phone, I remember then thinking how wrong it seemed that something like that (so addictive) could be done so easily with just a few clicks on the phone, with no real measures in place to confirm who was placing the bet (etc) & for sure its only grown from there.
