Her dad is the world's second richest man, that of course makes it easy for Sunak to relate to ordinary folk and understand their problems.

Yeah, we should only let poor people run things.

Seriously. Do you really think that the financial status of the PM is going to make a difference to how your life is?

Politics is full of self serving, unscrupulous careerists, and their bank balance is the least of our problems.
In fact, my only concern in that regard would be that a less well off politician might be susceptible to bribes or financial inducements.

Mr Beattie, 71, has been taken into custody and is being questioned by Police Scotland detectives.

A spokesman for the force said the arrest was made in connection with the ongoing investigation into the funding and finances of the SNP.

He said a report will be sent to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service." [BBC]

...But I suspect this one will register north of the Wall. The implosion of the SNP up there could spell disaster for the Tories down here come the general election.

Quite. In the good old days, those wealthy elite local politicians would have a quiet word in their club over a brandy and a certain issue would be pushed through that benefited certain people. All very cozy, low level corruption and not a penny paid.

However, if you wanted to see serious back-handers by developers over mass housing projects, the recipients were more likely to be Labour ex-union reps from humble backgrounds.

It could.

For anyone interested in Scottish politics(?!) this is worth reading.

I find some amusement in the fact Sunak is now deciding what to do about Raab,, now the investigation into alleged bullying is complete.

Is there any other investigating to do ? And they all finish with "findings are inconclusive" "no evidence was found to support,..."

Perhaps Sunak is considering Raab's martial arts experience.

Maybe ; just maybe his employees were totally f***ing useless and actually deserved the odd bollocking. Itís our lives that they are running! Would you prefer t***s who havenít got a clue or motivated knowledgable people. Look to Croydon council for the former!

Perhaps Raab will be the investigator on Sunak, a nice Tory style insider deal.

Politics should be about being in touch with the majority of the people and Sunak hasn't a clue.

Sunak being accused of "dithering" over a decision on Raab by the daily rags.
I think it's more getting any wording right, to either saves Raab's job or to let him go with 'dignity' (if that were possible).

I think the decision has probably been made, it'll all be in the wording and the timing of the release of news. Maybe 5pm on a Saturday, as the football results come in ?, or some other time when people's minds are on other things.

If Sunak had immediately acted on the report the media would be accusing him of a knee jerk reaction. Instead the media accuse him of dithering.

I think it perfectly reasonable to digest the contents of the report before deciding what to do. As FH says he will no doubt run this past the lawyers and experts on Parliamentary procedure.

The timing of his decision will no doubt be political but twas ever thus.

What we want are the most capable people.

That might not always happen, but a politician supposedly being 'of the people' is just a fairytale. You can certainly be for the people, but I wouldn't hold your breath for that with any government.
