Imagine changing the word Black to the word White in this BBC headline ? I wonder what the diversity policy is like at this company..........

Part of me rather admires the gumption of these people. Tech start ups are notorious for failing in the best possible scenarios so setting up a 'fund' and guilt tripping bigger corporations to come up with readies will probably be a nice little earner. Sure, dish out a little seed capital here and there but with no real downside if they fold.

Effectively milk the fund itself for x amount of years and then when the funding stops, let it implode into administration and blame all the usual suspects and so on. Might even be able to go on and do it all over again.

New theme on an old scam.

And you never know, it might just work out. Might even hit pay dirt with some tech genius currently beavering away in a bedroom and just waiting for somebody to show some faith. Stranger things have happend.

Already getting free publicity for it and even us old Gammons are discussing it.

Best of British to them. If you are going to be a race-grifter then better something like this than BLM or similar.

Personally, I think it's disgraceful and a major step back for equality by creating extra divisions. The whole concept of segregation should be banned and made a criminal offence.

Then again, the MOBO's is still hanging around, so apparently it's OK to judge people on skin colour.

equality doesn’t appear to include colour, sex or gender.
Strangely nor does meritocracy.

This is the world of tech start ups. You want to become a millionare, then start out a billionaire.

There are all kinds of issues to get het up about and I get the whole reverse prejudice thing but ultimately, it helps.

For exampe, I would love to be involved with a charity/foundation that helps poor white kids, who are the worst performing group in UK education, to get a job. Nothing like tech stuff, with is soon going to be dominated by AI but the practical stuff.

A foundation helping poor white kids get apprenticeships. Now is that going to stand a chance at the moment? No. And for all the rancid reasons of hypocrisy that you can conjure up about these people from Brixton.

But what they are doing, will help become a step nearer.

I was always rather impressed by the Stormzy line about how he is not anti-white but rather pro-black. I get that but in reverse.

Now in my foundation/charity, then once it got up and running, I would see no issues with expanding it to include kids from all kinds of poor backgrounds because ultimately this is what it is about (I would assume we are all from working class backgrounds and ultimately need to show some solidarity) but I would not make a song and dance about it.

So good luck to these people. Potential role models for us. And our thing might actually work!

Try looking up Sponsors for Educational Opportunity. Supports all under served and under represented students.

Comedian Rich Hall did a documentary on Americana. His chapter on Silicon Valley mentioned the total and utter absence of Black people in tech.

i dunno if it is true, never been to Silicon Valley. But the data back up his claim.

its like 1960's English Football.

If I were them I would try visiting the players of their local premier team. They might just dip their hands in their pockets for them.

There's a long tradition of pocket-dipping in Brixton. Or robbery with violence aka mugging.

Agree with a lot of this.

Really poor article from the BBC, lazy journalism. I will ignore the obvious racist issue to focus on what this article doesn't ask.

They have a £5m investment fund with no mention by the BBC that this is nothing in the business world most Venture capitalists control hundreds of millions.

They aim to start investing by 2026? So they have been sitting on these funds from 2019 and wont invest until 2026, why the delay?
What are they doing with the money now?

Assuming for a moment you were a sympathetic journalist who had no problem with people investing in businesses based on race you should still be pointing out to the reader that these people are wannabe venture capitalists who don't yet have serious money so they will have to be really careful with their investment decisions and if they want serious money be able to show the markets they have a successful track record.

A cynical person might agree with Matov about their aims.
