Three good goals.
The first was slightly surprising - Mitchell getting up and putting in a really good early cross and Edouard hustling to get in front of the defender to score which we haven't seen much of from either before.
Eze's was a wonderful bit of improvisation in the way he controlled the ball after Mateta somehow got it to him off his back.
Eddy's second was more like him and again he took it very well.
As has been said a better team than Wolves would've punished us but that's usually the case.
Not being unkind to Wolves but that was three points we would have been targeting and we got them so let's congratulate Roy and the boys on a job well done albeit after a shaky start.

I can't remember many times we had Mateta and Edoard on at the same time, certainly worked yesterday.

Last minute goal from Wolves was annoying, as was first from set piece

Both Wolves goals have to be a worry going forward as we donít seem to learn.
The first reminded very much of the goals coincided to WH last season.. That ball to the front post has to be ours, and it too often isnít. The second goal was the product of no real challenge from us anyway, it could have been taken by them at the front post, but as there was no challenge on either Wolves forward it didnít matter.
Our aerial ability in six yard area seems not to exist and it has to be a big worry .

It is a worry. But Packing the box to get on the end of a cross was Wolves only real threat. They outnumbered us when they did so. Their build up play and passing in the final third was awful. Itís not a coincidence that they scored twice when they were behind as they put a lot more players up to get on the end of crosses. However that also gave us more space when their attacks broke down which Eze exploited. We wonít face that aerial threat with that many players up in every game.

Agreed. I put it down to the players being tired at that point. I'm not convinced that cross would have been so easy to make earlier in the game.

I thought Eddy's second was a great goal worthy of being a goal of the month contender. The old "one-two" via a deft back-heel and expertly tucked away; if one of the top clubs had scored a goal like that, the football media would be orgasmic.

Unfortunately we saw similar to this too much last season. I donít think the Wolves game was a one-off and we will continue to get caught out in the air. As good as Guehi and Andersen are on the ground and passing, I feel their weakness is in the air. I would like to see us using whichever goalkeeper is best at dominating their area to give more confidence to the CHs if possible. Guaita didnít dominate in the air at all, Johnstone is slightly better, not sure about Henderson as havenít seen enough of him.

At one point last season, giving away a corner was almost as bad as giving away a penalty which surprised given our coaching staff strengths.

Ward had a much better game than at Brentford. Maybe the rain did him last week.
Mitchellís form Iím happy to say is fast coming back along with an improved attacking sense. His cross was fantastic.
It was good to see Hughes back on the pitch.
Mateta? Well Mateta is Mateta and v Wolves he was top drawer.
The whole team is benefiting from Zaha departure in my view.
Wilf was fantastic for Palace. Our best player for years.
He should have gone 3 years ago but covid got in the way.
Now the team is ready and strong enough and good enough to blossom without him. When Olise is back and Franca to come there are huge amount of positives evolving.
Tomorrow will be the hard bit. Keeping them all together. We have potentially got a very exciting future if our management get it right. Keeping the players will be the hardest and most important part.
What we have got growing is possibly huge. If we can keep these boys together who knows what they may pull off.

I thought we were good value for the win. When Wolves were on top in the first period i felt we never looked liked conceding but once we wrestled control we had a cutting edge to our game which Wolves didn't.
On the Schlupp debate i am a fan However, the manager is going to have a decision to make. I suspect Olise will play on the right when he is back and this will push Ayew across to the left. With this formation we looked pretty good towards the end of last season particularly with Eze linking up with Olise. Schlupp during the end of the last year was playing more centrally in a more withdrawn midfield role. With Lerma and Doucoure having started the season well it is hard to see where Roy can play Schlupp in the starting 11. At least it will make our bench considerably stronger with Mateta, Schlupp, Holding, Clyne, and Franca all potentially on there.
Suspect this will allow Roy to make more substitutions than we are used to.

Iíll give them their dues, Ward & Mitchell were both a lot better against Wolves than they have been in recent times. Iíve been critical of both and Ward still looked very exposed / vulnerable at times but both he and Mitchell were more solid and involved and the cross Tyrick put in for the first goal was superb.

Mitchell said yesterday that he's been working on his crossing in training - maybe Wilf's presence held back that part of his game but it was an excellent ball made even better by his getting it in early. If he can bring that more into his game it'll be a real asset with Eddy or Mateta, maybe even both waiting, and Eze and Olise ready for any half clearances.
Another thing I enjoyed was Lerma pouncing on the defender to set up Ayew's chance. He's shown a couple of times that he has the awareness to spot these opportunities and really throws himself in to intercept passes or pressure defenders.

Roy will sort it. I also am a fan of Schlupp. Against Wolves he didn't have a good game but he was spending a lot of time in his weaker position, up front wide left. Roy rates him, uses him well and we will almost certainly be seeing a lot more of him. He is a versatile asset and can score goals.
