Except for his two goals, Edouard was a disaster. But hey, a Palace striker with two goals in same half is golden.

Both his goals were expertly taken, no signs of a poor striker there. It seems to me that it is pure instinct in the box which is his forte. Without wishing to belabour a tiresome point, the first goal wouldn't have happened if it was Zaha on the ball on the left instead of Mitchell. Instead of slowing down play and coming inside, Mitchell puts in a peach of a ball for Edouard to attack, and look, Edouard's there with an excellent finish. My teenager daughter berated me when we went to Lyon game when I told her he was useless, telling me that she thought he looked like a good player. Every time he scores she messages me to remind me of my comments (and hers)! Aside from the goals I loved the fact that twice he took out Dawson. On one occasion running about as fast as I've seen him run in order that he could apply an uncharacteristically aggressive tackle on him (I think this was after Dawson used his trademark elbow on OE). I imagine Speroni enjoyed that very much.

I would add that I thought Edouard showed signs of improvement in the final games of last season as well. Edited by doombear (04 Sep 2023 8.46am)

There's little doubt he is a changed player this season who's suddenly been adopted as Palace royalty. Less than a few weeks ago most on here, me included, were calling for his head as as useless, slow and lazy looking forward. Whatever Roy and his team have said or done I only hope it continues because, if his confidence continues to improve, his ability to convert half chances will also improve. Well played Ed.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
