After yesterdays result maybe Roy could adopt a system of edouard and mateta as a dual strike force with eze a free role

There is certainly something in this. I guess you'd have Edouard playing slightly deeper and moving Eze out to the left? But then the question becomes is it better to have 2 up top, or Eze playing centrally?

As the Moody Blues might say - "It's a question of balance". What to do with Ayew and with Olise when he comes back? Presumably if Eze has a free role you would be looking at 4-3-1-2?

And drop who ? Lerma or doucoure, no chance, yesterday was all well and good but the reason they both struggle is because they offer very little off the ball, neither give defenders much to think about, neither make good runs, find space, drop deep and bring others into play. But Schlupp is just a complete passenger in this team, I'd rather eduoard was moved wide and Mateta starts in the middle.

Doucoure Lemar That’s what we had at the end of the game yesterday and that’s how we should start in two weeks.

I said before the game eddie on the left instead of Jeff S. That's what happened when JP came on with eddie cutting in and playing narrower. If Olise is not back for villa we should do this again. 2nd half. Having 2 forwards on the park also brought Eze more into the game.

No, if it aint broke dont fix it, one up top to start, then if needed after 60mins if things not good, try it.
You can only accomplish your object in life by complete disregard of the opinions of other people. |

If, for example, we played them both in our next game I think we'd struggle as Villa play with a lot of width and so our wide players will need to do quite a lot of defending. Eduoard won't offer much in that regard, other than occasionally tripping his opponent. I was happily surprised that it was Hodgson who decided to go for it at 1-1 with an attacking sub, as in the past he was always the more conservative of the two managers in these situations. It also showed we have that option if we're looking for a winner/equaliser. One slight problem is that despite linking up for the goal they still seem to lack a proper understanding of each other, like the comical moment where we had a great chance to break and they both left the ball for the other one.

LOL do you think Eddie is going to track back , help out Mitchell and cover the spaces in the midfield ? Jeffery might not be the best with the ball but at least he has the intellegence to be decent without it .
And we still need a striker |

5-3-2? Andersen, Guehi and Holding at the back. Mitchell and Olise as wing backs with an emphasis on attacking. Doucoure, Lerma and Eze in the middle. Edouard and Mateta up front. Never gonna happen.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |
