In his first season at MK Dons he took the reins after 16 games with the team in 21st place.The season was curtailed after 35 games due to Covid with MK Dons in 19th place.

At Swansea, in his first season the club finished 15th and 10th the following campaign.

He moved on to Southampton before the start of this season and they are currently in 2nd place.

I think the most impressive aspect of McKenna is that he has been able to significantly improve the players he had inherited and work within a fairly limited budget.

I listened to an interview recently with one of his players who spoke in glowing terms of McKenna- stating that he has honed in on the things each player does well (encouraging them to do this as often as possible) whilst trying to approach every game with the intention of Focusing on their own game (rather than being fearful of the opposition) how refreshing.

Ipswich have no right to be competing with the squad depth and quality of Leicester, Leeds or Saints - yet they continue to play attractive attacking football whilst defying the odds.

I wouldn’t be against this, not only because I’m in the “anyone but a Roy” camp, but I also think the best times I can remember as a Palace fan have been under young aspiring managers e.g. Terry V, Sir Steve, Dowie (in the main) and Patrick V ( Alan Smith bucks the trend a bit there) but you get the point I’m making - a young Manager hungry for success with a solid background of coaching and improving players in line with a positive front foot mentality.

McKenna fits that mould in my view.
