One of our more promising investments. He is getting fitter as well, as are most of our squad with the advent of Glasner.

Working with Olise and Eze plus Doucoure our goal chances should improve greatly - if we can hold on to them.

Munoz also a good buy but I have reservations about his Van Arnault tendencies - great as an attacking full back but can be caught out on the break.

All in all proves that you can get bargains in the January window.

Our next need is to get Mateta to be more prolific as he misses far more than he scores.

The majority of strikers do !

Interesting stats! May I ask you which source you use? Not to doubt what you stated, just so I can have acces myself.

He has the best shot to goal conversion rate of any of our players and his shots are on target 74% of the time.

Compare that to the top PL goal scorers(as per the Beeb's 'tops scorer list' and:
1. His shot to goal conversion rate is better than Haaland, Watkins, Salah, Bowen etc., and behind only, Palmer, Wood and Hwang.
2. His shot accuracy is better than every single one of them.

In other words, he's doing fine.

Is wharton the bargain of the season? Rice was more than 5 times what we paid for this kid. He has been outstanding since his arrival and probably added a good 10 million or more to his value.

When you think about the cost of our team, you have to take your hat off to DF.

He reminds me of a young Steven Gerrard. Excellent passer, reads the opposition well and breaks their moves up. Aggressive going forward and is willing to get back and help the defence. Really like him. If we keep hold of him he'll be worth well over £50m in a couple of years. Munoz is another one who has massively impressed me.

In the entire league I think it's difficult to look past Alexis Mac Allister as bargain of the season. £35m and Liverpool wouldn't be anywhere near the title race without him. Very happy that, for once, the weed seem to have been the losers in that deal.

Wharton is clearly going to be exceptional and I'm truly excited to see what he can do over a full season but, as others have said, Lerma on a free is our bargain signing of the season.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

From the football pages of the BBC website here in the UK comparing the 'top scorer' stats for the top PL strikers with the same stats for all the Palace players on the BBC's Crystal Palace pages.

Bargain and c.20m for a 19yo is difficult to process. I suspect market value was closer to the 10m mark, but was he worth the £20m, 100%.

I've genuinely not seen the control and passing vision in anyone since Cabaye.

With Olise, MG and Eze we sure have some young talent.

They're not quite like for like stats because the general top scorer stats only refer to PL games whereas the club ones include cup games so for Mateta includes his hat-trick against Plymouth (so I cheated a little bit - but Mateta's stats are reasonable for a club of our stature.

Any news on the knock he went off with, can’t find anything. Very much hope it’s not another long’ish term injury.

We may know a little more information from the press conference today at 13.30. Although I am sure OG will want to keep the barcodes guessing for as long as possible!

A very impressive start that’s for sure.

I particularly like the fact that he’s a busy player always in the thick of things snapping at heels, disrupting the opposition’s play but also pushing things forward and helping create attacking opportunities. I like him and Lerma together and it will be interesting to see how Doucoure fits in when he’s fit again. Could we play all 3 in a central triangle?

Ps. I also thought Hughes had an excellent game on Sunday.
