I saw Mick Hill several times in the 70s without noticing, I just thought Dave Swindlehurst was having a bad game, but they had the 70s/80s 'revisited' football on the other Saturday morning - northern show with Elton Welsby, Everton v Birmingham, whose striker was one Tony Evans - long haired, moustachioed and utterly transparent, a non-scoring striker who slid down to our level in the Mullery/early Coppell era - I had completely forgotten about him, Terry Mahoney, Kevin Taylor somehow remain in the long term memory, but Tony Evans would have been totally forgotten had I not once again chanced upon his mediocrity the other Saturday morning. If you have similar examples of complete blandness I would be interested in your observations.

Wasn't Mick Hill the 7 ft tall CF that was really useless (and thats being kind) . I heard that Malcom Alison sold him to LA Lakers , well it had something to do with a lake anyway .

Nice try, except he was transferred from Palace to Cape Town.

When he transferred from Ipswich to Palace, a helicopter was involved in some way in order to beat a deadline. I can't remember the details, but I've got a newspaper cutting about it in a Palace scrap book in my loft. I must dig it out. It was something to do with securing the deal in time for him to play in the upcoming Palace game. I've a feeling we had a sudden injury crisis, and of course in those days you could rectify such a problem with a nifty signing.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

We also signed Ben Anderson from Cape Town but he didn't play much. Ian St John played for them as well.

Anderson did indeed transfer to Palace from Cape Town, then after 12 appearances and 1 goal (NB he wasn't a striker), he transferred back to Cape Town.
