BBC is reporting that West Ham are interested in Sorloth who has a £32 million release clause in his contract. This follows on from the dramatic improvement of Mateta whom I imagine would be valued similarly. Both really struggled under Hodgson. The lesson of the story? Hodgson is not a coach for strikers , depriving them of their lifeblood of crosses or early passes and asking them to concentrate their efforts outside the penalty area which is the only place they really need to flourish.

Players mature at different rates and flourish under certain conditions. TBF I always thought that there was a player there in Sorloth. And whilst I hated Benteke by the end, I always felt that 99% of the issue with him was the system. If he was at a team like Everton who just pump balls into the box he'd score a hatfull After his cameo goal against the weed, it was clear that JPM had ability

I remember at the time Sorloth mouthing off about not being in the team and his agent causing problems. Although he seemed a complete donkey whenever he played for us I think the problems were more off the field than on it. I think he was successful in Turkey whilst on loan but we still sold him rather than having him back (and he p1ssed off Fehrnabace too!).

Benteke, scored a hatful at Villa,so his failure to score for us,other than his first season under Sam,,was clearly down to Royball. Edited by Jacey (06 Jul 2024 10.22am) Edited by Jacey (06 Jul 2024 1.22pm)
