UNDERGROUND 2: PM to make statement

Downing Street say they are 'still unsure' whether the explosions that
have closed the London Underground network and caused chaos in central
London are a result of terrorist attacks.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said, " I today chaired a meeting of
Cobra - senior ministers committee - earlier on to access the situation
to decide what immediate action needs to be taken. As far as the police
are concerned they are in operational command dealing with the situation
in accordance with very well established procedures in an extremely
professional way.

" Health services are in support to deal with the terrible injuries
there have been. As far as transport is concerned, London Underground
services have been suspended and we advise people not to make
unnecessary journeys.

Metropolitan Police Commission Sir Ian Blair said there had been six
explosions. The number of casualties is unknown.

The Prime Minister is expected to make a statement from Gleneagles at
around noon. The Home Secretary will make a statement to the House of
Commons this afternoon.
