Simon Jordan

Simon Jordan

The shouts for Simon Jordan's departure are getting louder...but really the shouters are missing the point, says Jamesey

One of the reasons I was asked to write a column on this website was because I was a veteran supporter. Check out my profile and you can see I am not hiding my age and history.

My veteran's view was aimed at making sense of what's going on now with what happened in the past...a sort of historical perspective, I guess.

Somewhere along the line the veteran dropped off and I started writing as a Palace fan (as I am in spades) and maybe I can answer some of the frustrations of members who expect success as an automatic process?

Simon Jordan owns CPFC. If you don't like him, hard luck. Calling for Jordan Out is like walking into the Natwest and yelling Natwest Out...or Abbey National Out in your building society.

He owns the club and if he goes out it will be when he chooses or when some other foolhardy entrepreneur buys the outfit.

An Australian-based HOL member in the same age group as myself, recently reminded me of the mudbank where we used to gather in the 1950s - now a smart stand above Sainsbururys.

For the first time since I started to write this column, I urge some of you impatient youngsters to keep the faith.

Support your local team whether you're from Croydon, Bromley, Kent, Surrey, Penge or Norwood...it's still much more rewarding than latching on to Man U, the Scousers or the Arse.

Simon Jordan scooped us out of the mire in 2000. OK, he as been an irritating chairman, has made some odd appointments, and has written some extraordinary programme notes (not any more, we hope).

Don't knock him too much, he has put a small fortune into our club. Let's not be too ungrateful.
