Crystal Palace boss Alan Smith denied reports that suggested he was making an attempt to sign Marcus Bent from Sheffield United. Bent was linked to the Eagles after Smith transfer listed Clinton Morrison after a run of poor performances.

Yesterday we reported that Palace tried to sign Marcus Bent from Sheffield United in exchange for striker Clinton Morrison and £1.5 million, but today Eagles manager Alan Smith blasted this story.

Smith, however, confirmed that he rejected Blades boss Neil Warnock's offer which would have seen Clinton Morrison, plus cash, head to Bramall Lane.

Smith is said to be upset with United after suggesting that he wanted to bring back Bent to Selhurst Park. Bent left Palace for Port Vale two seasons ago.
