Curtis Fleming is training with Darlington after being released by Palace at the end of last season.
The 35-year-old saw his Palace career blighted with injury since arriving from Middlesborough in December 2001.
He made 49 appearances for the Eagles but the injuries took their toll and he found it difficult to displace right-back Danny Butterfield when he returned.
He was offered the chance of a coaching role at Palace by Iain Dowie but the former Republic of Ireland international wanted to extend his playing career.
He now hopes to earn a contract at the League Two (old Division Three) side.
