Crystal Palace's reserves maintained their place at the top of the table after a 1-1 draw at Southampton.

The team featured Jose Fonte, Dave Martin and Jeff Hughes plus Scott Flinders in the Eagles goal.

Striker Ben Kudjodji fired Palace ahead in the 15th minute with a low strike past goalkeeper Michael Poke for his first goal of the season.

Cedric Baseya shot wide for Southampton, but Palace should have stretched their lead as Charlie Sheringham, Ryan Hall and Martin went close before Sheringham saw a "goal" ruled out for offside.

But the south coast club grabbed an equaliser in the 81st minute when former Palace defender Darren Powell headed home a free-kick past Flinders.

Palace: Flinders, Cline, Fonte, Swaibu, Hughes, Smith, Hall, Martin, Sheringham, Kudjojdi, Hills.

Subs: Bingham, Wilkinson, Carolan, Sweeney, Scannell.
