Crystal Palace's new manager George Burley is hoping that Darren Ambrose signs a new contract with the club.

A few weeks ago Ambrose was poised to join London rivals QPR in a £750,000 deal.

Since then the CPFC 2010 consortium have bought the club and Burley, who handed the 26-year-old his professional debut at Ipswich, hopes that the player will stay.

"I brought Darren through as a kid and gave him debut at 17 at Ipswich," said Burley.

"I think maybe he was too young when he left Ipswich for Newcastle.

"He scored 20 goals last season and he is a player I want to keep. He's a top player and we will be trying to get him to extend his contract."
