Crystal Palace striker Sean Scannell could be ruled out for the rest of the year as it has been revealed that he requires a knee operation.
The 19-year-old played 67 minutes of the pre-season match against Exeter City, but was hauled off after jarring his knee.
After seeing a specialist yesterday, the bad news was confirmed to both striker and boss George Burley, that an operation would be required to fix the problem.
"The biggest disappointment is Sean Scannell's injury," said manager George Burley.
"He is going to have an operation on his knee next week and could be out for five or six months.
"It didn't seem like anything at the time.
"He came on against Exeter and caught his knee in the grass and a bit of bone has come away."
