Team news

Eagles boss Dougie Freedman may decide to rest some of the team that started in Saturday's defeat at Leeds. Fringe players Stuart O'Keefe, Calvin Andrew and goalkeeper Lewis Price could feature, along with Darren Ambrose who was on the bench at the weekend.

Anthony Gardner and Antonio Pedroza may be added to the squad if they are match fit. Nathaniel Clyne (foot) and Kagisho Dikgacoi (hamstring), Owen Garvan (hip) and Alex Marrow (ankle) are still out.

New Wigan signings Shaun Maloney and Patrick van Aanholt are likely to make their Latics debuts. Albert Crusat is set to make a first start but former Palace defender Emmerson Boyce plus Antolin Alcaraz and Steven Gohouri are sidelined.

Quotes

Roberto Martinez

"In September we play Man City, Everton and Spurs and we are starting our Carling Cup adventure. It is a really demanding month but, with the amount of players we have got it is great month for us.

"I see the Carling Cup as a really exciting competition. We want to progress as far as we can and make sure we use these games as a really strong internal competition for places. We have got really good talent in the squad.

"I have been watching Crystal Palace for a while now, not just this season. They are really well organised. They have a good balance in their squad with experience and exciting young talent. They are going to give us a really tough game."

Victor Moses

"I was there for four years. Obviously I am not there now but respect to the team, it is a good club it will be nice to go there, feel the pitch and see how it is.

"It is a good team but we need to go there and win the game, obviously.

"It will be strange because I was there before playing for them, and now I am a Wigan Athletic player.

"It will feel weird but that is what football is all about, you are in one place one moment and then the next you are somewhere else. But I just want to go there and enjoy it."
