Leeds 0-0 Palace

Leeds 0-0 Palace

Crystal Palace earned a hard-fought point in a goalless draw at Leeds United.

Pierre Sage’s side, who had beaten Lech Poznan 4-0 in the Europa League on Thursday, produced a resilient display despite their midweek European commitments.

The Eagles created the first opening when Quinten Timber sent an ambitious 25-yard effort over the crossbar. Adam Wharton and Tyrick Mitchell also tried their luck before the interval, but both saw their attempts deflected into the arms of Leeds goalkeeper James Trafford.

Palace emerged with renewed purpose after the break and came close to breaking the deadlock when Yeremy Pino directed a free-kick towards the bottom corner, forcing Trafford into a diving save. Jefferson Lerma fired over from the resulting corner before Daichi Kamada sent an effort narrowly wide.

The visitors then thought they had taken the lead when Mitchell converted Anan Khalaili’s cross, only for VAR to rule out the goal after Khalaili was caught offside when receiving Pino’s pass.

Leeds threatened largely through Ethan Ampadu’s long throws, but their clearest opening came when Dominic Calvert-Lewin met James Justin’s cross from close range, forcing Walter Benitez into a fine save.

The hosts had one final opportunity to snatch victory after winning a free-kick deep into stoppage time, but Palace cleared the danger to secure a share of the spoils.

Despite having three fewer days to prepare than Leeds and fielding nine players who had started Thursday’s European fixture, Palace showed few signs of fatigue as they collected their fourth Premier League point of the campaign.

The result leaves Sage’s side 15th in the table with four points from five matches heading into the international break, with their first league clean sheet of the season providing further encouragement.

Leeds: Trafford, Bogle (James 67), Gudmundsson (Bahoya 90), Ampadu, Muharemovic, Calvert-Lewin, Stach, Okafor (Nmecha 76), Tanaka (Aaronson 67), Justin, Elvedi.

Not used: Zetterer, Longstaff, Bijol, Bard, Gruev.

Palace: Benitez, Tomiyasu (Lerma 46), Richards, Canvot, Khalaili, Timber, Wharton, Mitchell, Pino (Sarr 81), Kamada, Strand Larsen (Nketiah 81).

Not used: Matthews, Mingueza, Chilwell, Doucoure, McNeil, Osorio.
