Berhalter going to World Cup

April 23 2002

Gregg Berhalter

Gregg Berhalter

Gregg Berhalter has been named in the 23-man USA squad for the World Cup finals in June.

Berhalter played in the first half of USA's recent 2-1 defeat against the Republic of Ireland.

He has hardly featured for the Eagles this season and is unfairly on the transfer list after Trevor Francis told him he did not feature in his plans at Selhurst.

The 28-year-old is likely to be putting himself in the shop window for a contract elsewhere when he plays in Japan/South Korea.

Jovan Kirovski who is set to leave Palace in the summer, has been ommitted from the squad, despite featuring regularly for the US for the past season.

Full squad: Brad Friedel (Blackburn Rovers), Kasey Keller (Tottenham Hotspur), Tony Meola (Kansas City); Jeff Agoos (San Jose Earthquakes), Gregg Berhalter (Crystal Palace), Eddie Pope (DC United), Carlos Llomosa (New England), Pablo Mastroeni (Colorado Rapids), David Regis (Metz), Frankie Hejduk (Bayer Leverkusen) Tony Sanneh (Nurnberg); DaMarcus Beasley (Chicago), Chris Armas (Chicago Fire), Eddie Lewis (Fulham), Clint Mathis (MetroStars), John O'Brien (Ajax), Claudio Reyna (Sunderland), Cobi Jones (Los Angeles); Earnie Stewart (NAC Breda), Landon Donovan (San Jose Earthquakes), Brian McBride (Columbus Crew), Joe-Max Moore (Everton), Josh Wolff (Chicago Fire).
