Reserves miss out on championship

April 25 2002

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace

The reserves had to settle for a final finish of second place in the league as QPR beat Brighton today.

Rangers went into their final game of the season two points behind Palace, who were leading the Avon Insurance Combination, knowing they had to win.

And win they did, beating Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 at Loftus Road this afternoon. Danny Murphy and Ben Walshe were the goal scorers.

The Eagles second string should have wrapped up the title by beating lowly Bristol Rovers in their last home game on April 8, but lost 2-1.

Then wins over Swindon and Bristol City, with a draw at Norwich inbetween turned out to be not enough to secure the championship.

They will be hoping to end the season on a high when they play Woking in the Surrey Senior Cup final on Tuesday, April 30, kick-off 7.30pm at at the Met Police FC ground (in East Molesey, near Hampton Court).
