Birmingham City fan Duncan Adams tells us about some of Trevor Francis's favourites who could be heading our way this summer from the Midlands...
With regards to Brum players coming your way, the one player that normally comes up in conversation is forward Andrew Johnson.
He was seen as Francis's protoge. Very pacey and great coming on as a sub against weary legs. He normally wins free kicks and penalties, rather then scoring goals himself.
Three Blues 'Francis' signings that are now out of contract and available on free transfers are Jon McCarthy - right winger, but has had three broken legs in the last 18 months - Danny Sonner (poser in midfield) and striker Dele Adebola.
Out of these Adebola has got to be a bargain on a free. Great touch for a big man and exciting to watch, especially when he runs at defenders.
Has been out though through injury for 12 months, but apparently has lost a stone-and-a-half in weight and was looking sharp in training.
The only other player who might make the move is Nicky Eaden, who seems to be out of favour with Bruce. Dependable sort of player who can play right midfield or right back.
And on a last note, I was really impressed with the Palace fans, when I visited Selhurst a couple of months back for the Birmingham game. Passionate but in a non-intimidatory way towards the away fans. Made for a good day out.
I have yet to update my Ground Guide (www.footballgroundguide.co.uk), but when I do so in the next week or two, Selhurst will be definitely getting a good write up.
Cheers!
