You would think it couldn’t mean anything else, because an upgrade on Jimmy Mc at his best would be a £70m player in todays market. I’d like to think Ahamada is going to be decent but we’ve seen very little of him against top notch opposition.

Lerma replaces Milivojevic, this is a decent move. Franca would not be a replacement for Wilf but hopefully a dynamic player. We need an out and out goal scoring striker and a specialist winger (preferably in the Palace mould of unpredictable and a crowd pleaser).

Agree with all of that.

Lerma and Ahamada are upgrades right now, given all players respective ages and capabilities etc. Only my subjective view of course, and I'm very aware of this, but I think JMac has been our best and most influential player over the last 'x' period second only to Wilf. Paul Gascoigne was also one of the best players I've ever seen from these isles, wouldn't want him starting for us now though.

We've lost Wilf and Olise is at the very least unfit/unavailable for start of season. We now look very exposed on the wings and can see a continual rotation of reasonable but barely fit for purpose alternatives occupying those spaces. We need a RB for yet another season and a striker as we have done for what feels like an eternity.

My fear is we'll struggle for goals, the likes of Eze should be the unexpected source for these which boost us massively, not the sole provider from a creative midfield responsibility. We look solid in goal, central defence and midfield but outside of that concerns are fair I'd say. I've discounted Franca so far as firstly I don't think anyone can fairly/accurately assess what impact he'll have and secondly he hasn't even arrived!

We once again look to be a few biscuits short of the tin. Those in place are very good and I'm happy with them but I'm disappointed and I'd suggest justifiably anxious about starting the season with only half a Starting XI I have confidence in. That's before looking deeper at the squad.

I am hoping for at least some attacking incomings, and not of the Plange or Banks ilk, however that is a dim glow of a hope.

Nonetheless, COYP.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

I have already said, the king stays in the middle if Roy has any sense, he said Eze has been given licence to express himself, he is a No !0, not an 11 or an 8, tinker with him and you take away the Eze magic

Beat me to it. Eze though the centre is a no brainer.

I think that's a fair assessment Nicholas. If Olise were fit it would make a massive difference as with him on the right, Ayew on the left and Eze through the middle and Doucoure and Lerma behind we'd have the makings of a strong midfield. Without Olise there's too much reliance on Eze to make things happen and as I prophesised a month or so ago we'd start with Schlupp left and Ayew right, which is workmanlike but lacking in threat.

Calm down the transfer window isn’t over yet. There are more than likely players lined up, but it takes time, as clubs won’t let players go until they have a replacement. Only if your going to pay over the top for a player, will you get them straight away.

We seem to be forgetting Rak-Sakyi, exactly the same player as Olise, but probably a season in the Championship away from Premiership, Schlupps best position is wide, cutting in on his left foot, or a Loan for a year, Olise is hot property at the moment, 60/70m should be accepted, you sell at the peak, one serious injury and a big fee goes out the window, similar to Salako. Self Sustainability through good scouting.

I think Arsenal wanted him for around 45 mil at some stage.

The point isn't that Jimmy Mac is/isn't worth £xxx£, the point is is that he was invaluable to the Palace side at a particular moment in time. Some players are actually key to the side functioning well.

Yep agree with all that. Rak-Saki needs to work more now on his confidence than his skill as we all know he has that in abundance . I would let Olise go for anything over 60 mill if re-invested in the squad of course . He may never be the same player again after an injury like that .

This has popped up on 'NewsNow' about JRS & a few other kids, only thing ididn't like about the article is they seem to think we've only got 2 senior GK's & left out Remi Mathews . . . [Link]

The flaw in that theory becomes apparent when you try to replace Olise. No matter how much work the scouting dept put in, every transfer is a gamble. The ones that do so well as to be worth far more than you bought them for are few and far between. Most will hopefully hold value, some will not. Right now, the simple fact is that if we sell Olise we have a weaker team.

Rak-Sakyi plays in the same position and fashion as Olise, but has done nothing to show he is a preimer legaue match-winner.

We have played two good outfits in the states, in both games we had plenty of ball, good percentages of control, but as ever not enough goals to win the games. Hodgsons comments probably reflect that, but at the same time he knows it’s all we have ,we have little or nothing in the squad to cover what we do have. We do have a decent first eleven , some have said and I agree ,we are a couple of good players short of very good, that was with Wilf, and Olise. And even then not when injuries took players of their quality out. Quite honestly the team as it is without Eze, and we hang on his fitness, is very ordinary, with nothing in the squad ,or under 23s to change that
There might be incomings, there might not , but if not forget top ten, because as it is we definitely are not better off than last season ,or the season before.
