Tony Banks of Genesis. A brilliant and creative keyboard player who was, in the latter years of Genesis, a bit more restricted by the poppy direction the band took. But go back to the 70s and he was in his element, and of course in later years he could demonstrate his virtuosity in live shows when older material was reprised.I remember an interview with Phil Collins where he said Tony was the heart of the band.

I also think the late Gary Brooker of Procul Harem deserves a mention. He wrote some beautiful songs and had a wonderfully soulful voice. I think a lot of people of people think of Procul Harem as being one hit wonders, which to an extent I suppose they were, with none of their subsequent release getting anywhere near the success of A Whiter Shade of Pale. And whenever the band get an airing on the radio it is nearly always that song that is played. However they continued to produce some excellent music with the LP Shine on Brightly my favourite.

Nigel Blackwell of Half Man Half Biscuit, some of his songs are so well written and at times very surreal.
On the Genesis bit, all went downhill when Peter Gabriel left in my opinion.

It just wasn't the same without the lead singer dressing up as a daisy.
The idea that Genesis went down hill after Gabriel left is really just lazy.
The band were going nowhere with arty prog rock and then became a massively successful rock act.
If eight minute pretentious and badly written songs are your thing, then I guess one will go for the Gabriel era.
For me, apart from 'I Know What I Like', I can't think of one track I really like.

The albums they made straight after Gabriel's exit really didn't change direction that much. It went more pop from 'And Then There Were Three'.
