No argument on that.

I've never got drummers, especially when they used to play their endless solos, but Jon Hiseman seemed pretty good.

My favourite drummer was always Mick Tucker from The Sweet.

He was superb.

Yes, Mick Tucker was a great drummer. The Sweet were a great rock band. They were known for the glitzy glam rock numbers like Blockbuster and Ballroom Blitz etc but they made some great rock albums, away from the Chinn/Chapman partnership.

Probably some of the most underrated musicians are the session players/ touring band members like Henry Spinetti (drums- played a lot with Clapton) Dave Bronze (bass player) and Mark Mann (also a producer but a demon with a slide on guitar)

Probably not underrated by the music 'inner circle' but Robbie Krieger from The Doors is worth a mention.

The Doors' musical motif may have been Ray Manzarak's organ (with Jim Morrison's organ often coming into play too) but Krieger's guitar set the rhythm (particularly as there was no bass player). He never used a pick but played with his fingers like a Spanish guitarist.

He wrote most of their best tunes too.

i reckon that some of the greatest musicians are the ones who support, but do not seek the limelight. Less prone to showy solos.

drummer Jet Black (the Stranglers) or jazz pianist Thelonius Monk being a couple of examples. It is the musical equivalent to Luca Modric. Quietly working in the background while others get the accolades.

Eze Peasy at Anfield....

I know it's all about the producer, but you cant deny the thrill of the tribal twin drumming on Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll Parts 1 & 2.

Good shout, if we're going down that route, Karen Carpenter. Great vocalist, brilliant drummer. They often had her doubled up on drums(percussion) especially live shows.

I frmember seeing them in a midnight concert for Help A London Child at The Palladium organised by Capital Radio, gotta be late 70's.

Good call on Rosetta Tharpe. She was terrific and influenced a lot of guitarists.
