I know it's all about the producer, but you cant deny the thrill of the tribal twin drumming on Gary Glitter's Rock and Roll Parts 1 & 2. Peter Phipps of the Glitter Band was a very proficient drummer who later played for the Eurythmics, but I'm not sure if he played on that record. I think Mike Leander and Glitter did everything except the sax on those classic Gary Glitter hits. He played on the Glitter Band albums presumably. What made the Glitter sound was the hand claps, guitar strings tuned to one chord and the football chant backing singers.

And a bit less of the under-rated and more of the under-age. Edited by PalazioVecchio (08 Dec 2023 4.14pm)

Woodie Guthrie & Sonny Terry i would expect every Eagle, on here, was not born when this was recorded. Not even the Octagenarian Wisbech.

I'd not heard this by Guthrie before, but, very cheekily, Bob Dylan who worshipped Guthrie, also wrote a song he called Lost John which followed the same style. Probably wouldn't get away with that today.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I'm gonna go with Matt Johnson of (is) The The. He wrote and played and recorded the whole album "Infected" when he was 17 years old. It's a masterpiece!Johnny Marr(The Smiths) tells a story about the time they met before The Smiths had formed and they were gonna work together but it didn't happen. Then Marr was in London and called Johnson up to crash on his sofa coz he was skint. In the front room was a recording machine, guitars, drums, keyboards etc. Jonhson played a demo he had done the night previous of "This Is The Day". Marr immediate though was'I've gotta up my game'! Some years ago there was a poll among some of the world's best guitarists as to who was the best of 'em. Top of the poll was the late Danny Gatton. Watch the Danny Gatton Boogie clip on Youtube and see how good he was.
