Not defending Freedman/Parish here as their transfer decision making has been odd to say the least. But....

Richards - is actually quite decent. Had either Guehi or Andersen been out he would be very good cover.

Ahamada - you just don't know whether he was worth 12m, never been given a decent chance. Certainly not under Roy

However......

Franca - again you don't know, but to pay £20m + on an unknown for a club like palace was irresponsible.

Henderson - I know that Giuita had thrown his toys out of the pram but why spend 17m on an known injury prone backup keeper. Joe Whitworth has been picked for England development squad or something.

Add to that Rob Holding an unnecessary addition, now injured and taking up valuable wages. Nathan Ferguson taking up valuable wages. Mateta who should have been sold in the summer, keeping both Ward and Clyne taking up a valuable weekly wage.

Money being wasted on multiple levels.

Two experienced players and of course replacing them with those costing fees will have cost much more than retaining the services of Ward and Clyne.

It was more a situation of keeping both on, when really only 1 of them should have been kept.

I would add Tomkins, to the wasted money. But beyond that , any club in our position not just should but must bring in players that improve what you have, yes you can speculate a bit, and they have, only two players have come close in actually improving our team since three windows back.
I have watched Franca, a few times ,and if it wasn’t for his price tag, I would accept out of hand he is only promising and a bit rough at the edges. . If he is any good he might need a really smart Championship regime to get going.
Ahamada, Is another expensive chance taken that when I have seen him , which is quiet often since he came , only ever shouts, give me a go in the Champiomship.
These two are a bit further forward than the majority of our under twenty ones .proof of the pudding is the Championship shows little to no interest in players ,people think could play for us.
It’s little wonder we find ourselves up against it, Hodgson could throw any of these in it won’t help.

Let’s be honest we have never previously seen this Hodgson, this is a man that has always contained his frustrations in the game. And here he is sitting on a half dead horse hoping to get to the promised land, knowing the horse will never make it
He might flair up at times , but he will always get the blame whether he does or not, only pride can keep him trying, but he might as well throw it in , and let the players and board break another manager, and the fans demand value for money from someone else.

I agree with this. I'm a "fan" put me money where me mouth is for a few years and couldn't give a fvck if he says I'm spoilt. Don't understand why everyone gets so precious about it when they spend half their waking hours battering him.

The disappointment for me is that there's the core of a very decent team but the rest are not near good enough and there's zero contingency for injury. With two or three decent additions this could have been a good season where we build a winning feeling, the better players want to stay and progress is being made. We might even attract a good loan which is harder to do when a team is struggling.

Instead they'll be getting the hump and their agents will be all over it.

Regarding Roy. Saying about the fans being spoilt,I know he has since apologised, I like him started supporting Palace in the fourth and third division days,1960 to be exact. I agree with him that compared to those days,we are spoilt. But that was over sixty years ago and times and peoples expectations have changed.
Think he has been good overall for Palace, but every one has their day and I think that day has come.
I do however put most of the blame on Freedman and Parish and Co for not backing him in the transfer market with either the money available or the signings made. Also don't hold your breath on the new stand being built anytime soon.

Why is there a lot of talk about the New Stand not happening ?I know Simon Jorden commented on this but couldn't back his claims up .The extra costs is relatively small in premiership terms and planning issues have been overcome. So why would we not proceed ?

Inflationary costs in the building industry are absolutely horrific over the last four years and there's a skill shortage.

Not sure that's the full reason but in the mix I reckon.

Papers are saying we're after Cooper but he's not exactly storming it at Forest. Do we really want him? On the other hand, Dyche might have been the right fit of manager for us when he was available.

We've still got some great players but not enough of them to take us to another level. We need to finish fourth from bottom and should still be able to do that. However, another shambolic season because of poor planning and buying.

Maybe but if not done now after these years in premiership it will never happen. Apparently Everton new ground costs up 150mil .

Whilst recognizing Will Still's success at Reims he is relatively inexperienced as a manager so perhaps being thrust into the PL might bet a leap too far at this stage of his managerial career. My understanding is that he is on the 'Radar' of Sunderland.

Sunderland are expected to move for Kim Hellberg who has been relatively successful in the Swedish league.

I've previously posted Will Still would be an exciting prospect. He was interviewed in the Times about a week ago.
He describes himself as an introvert "But put me inside a dressing room and I know how to make them feel right about themselves and what we need to do and that we are there to win."

And on taking over the reigns at Reims
"Before, we were very 5-4-1, defensive low block, a bit boring and I said, ‘Stuff it, let’s have a go, we are conceding a s***load of goals in any case.’ So we turned it on its head"

He is absolutely going places, he will become much more widely known in the near future [unfortunately he is a West Ham fan]

I must admit I am intrigued by SJ saying it wont happen because it cant - for sure he has been the chairman of the club & he is in a better position than most to know more about some of the details but why say that & then not substantiate it ?

My concern presently is that Roy, like Pardew previously, is a pragmatic manager and may get "more slack" from the management like him in terms of change due to his stature at the club. That said Pardew had the FA cup run and more points in the bank than Roy, so his possible departure may come quicker.
