In Ireland, when they tried to charge for water, there were protests but also "water metre fairies" who removed meters. Charges were not brought in. (However, just a matter of time).

Are you suggesting water should be free?

Fully agree. And wary as anything about Fox. He invited the police raid to today with numerous comments about the Blade Runners. I see/suspect, and happy to be proved wrong, is a grifter trying to hijack what is an underground movement that clearly is making a difference.

No matter what we think about their efforts, what they are doing is a direct attack on infrastructure and as such would bring them onto the radar of some serious enforcement agencies.

You cannot play that game via social media.

You’re surprised that the police are interested in arresting people who are participating in regular, organised criminal activity?

I don’t disagree that part of this is a money-making scheme first, with the other benefits probably a firm second, but there are plenty of other ways to pressure than organised crime (same point stands with climate activists law breaking, FYI)

I am not surprised in the slightest. And I suspect this more than local plod involved. You could, and I am not doing so but there is the meat on the bone, make an argument that the attacks on the Uluz infrastructure is falls potentially into the category of terrorism.

But direct action does work. Almost any and every revolutionary movement involves it.

Now is this Bladerunner phenomenon the tiny flames of a massive insurrection? Probably not. But something is clearly happening, even if just by accident rather than design. Independent groups springing up, essentially copy-cating what they see others doing. Maybe some connections between groups, representing (once again more by accident than design) the kind of cell structure favoured by insurgency movements and certainly no top down leadership in place that is co-ordinating it but once again I refer to our friends over the water on the Continent.

The Yellow-Jackets came about by way of a protest movement around people loathing increasing taxation on their motoring. And they put s***-loads out willing to take direct action. That had an impact.

This is a law-and-order concern way above just vandalism.

The system loves demos. But you can put a million on a protest march and it achieves very little. The examples are to many to even begin quoting (and ultimately I include the Yellow-Jackets in this but the wider, and lesser reported, damage they did to speed cameras and the like is the real story) but an organised minority, willing to do rather than talk, that needs nipping in the bud.

And chancers like Fox know that, hence him seeking all the PR he can get on this.

I had to dig out both quotes to make a very clear point. And they are quotes

One oversteps the line. The other doesn’t. In this instance, fairly simple

Nothing wrong with posing a question to spark debate. Very different from direct instruction and encouragement to commit criminal vandalism. For someone that constantly carps on about speech you’d think you’d know the difference. If Fox had more of a brain he’d be able to put his points of view across intellectually and calmly, and he’d still be in a job.

Well, I'm afraid we are at an impasse on our evaluations of the differences.

"I encourage them to tear down every single camera there is"

vs

“Perhaps I have to take another route. Does that other route mean that this is the time for me to break the law?”

Packham basically said the downside to blowing up oil pipelines was the punishment when caught.

Police should be paying him a visit to search for explosives

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

I don't see how Fox's comments rise to the level of conspiracy.

In my non legal opinion conspiracy is when you take an active part and have contact with others. As far as I am aware Fox has not spoken to the blade runners or made suggestions directly to them as to how they should break the law.

His views rise to the level of the bloke in the pub saying all sex offenders should be strung up.

As I have said previously I don't agree with criminal damage even thought I think Khan is a C Unit and ULEZ a disgrace.

Let's cut through the crap.

Do you really think that a Left wing activist would get a visit from the police?

Shall we start a thread to discuss all future episodes of activists breaking the law or encouraging it and see how that goes?

Basically said or actually said? Big difference. If you can share a verbatim quote that matches the same direct inference as Fox I’ll happily agree.

As it stands, there are clear, observable differences between the two statements.its not a matter of subjectivity, its objectively clear.

Posing a question is not the same as encouraging and instructing an action.

This is fairly basic stuff.

Happens all the time. Prosecuted all the time. Not what I think, it’s evidential that they do get thrown in the slammer on the regular. Examples already above… you’re clouded by partisan dogma on this one. Yet again

And you aren't?

I don't defend Fox on these matters, although I'm not unhappy to see ULEZ cameras destroyed. Many aren't.

What I don't accept is that people on the right are treated the same as those on the left by the constabulary or by the media.

So presumably you are very happy with the outrageous bias in the mainstream media, but only when it's in one direction?

Ah the inevitable segue.

Returning to the discussion point, do you concede your statement on 'lefty activists' not getting visits from the police is observably false?

I doubt you will. Almost like ideology getting in the way of objectivity again.

Not on this one, nope. It's an objective 'one' not a subjective 'one'.

Segues everywhere

'What I don't accept is that people on the right are treated the same as those on the left by the constabulary or by the media.'

You'd have to look at the data in more detail to actually work out whether this was true or not. Otherwise all it is is a belief driven by ideological bias (either way). You might be able to be deterministic about things like this without proper analysis or evidence but that's not my bag. You'd have to provide some stats on volume of arrests cut by political persuasion, for example, and then I might be able to form a more deterministic conclusion.

Until then, it's just theory and opinion, so maybe present it like that instead of fact?
