If I think back now, I started in 80/81 in the whitehorse 'starter' terrace, then had a couple of seasons in the kids section at the front of the holmesdale, then went onto the AW, moving in around the singing bit in 1985. When the AW went all seater I went back to stand on the holmesdale. Kind of similar ro you Fubar: I started in the Holmesdale kiddie bit at the front through the early 80's; defected to the Whitehorse in '85; then in '88 i joined my older brother in the AW until it went all seater in 1990/1; and ended up back in the holmesdale. spring 1989 standing in the AW to the left of the halfway line in with the singers, one of the greatest times and places to be a palace fan too far gone.. aint no way back this post was sponsored by fubar.com

Yeah, it was like the academy where we were nurtured until we graduated to the Arthur Waite.

In the picture a Sunderland defender is down injured as Wright looks on.

Just looking through these again and I love the way Wright is standing over him as he was getting treatment. No respite. Probably giving him a load of verbals as well.

That was a strange game that one for obvious reasons. I seem to remember the atmosphere was quite muted as people with transistor radio's started relaying the horrors of the disaster unfolding at Hillsborough.

I remember the first news that broke quite early on was that the match was suspended due to crowd trouble. Awful, awful day. Came home and couldn't bring myself to watch the images on the TV - i felt so sick for them. I just kept thinking: that could've been me.

Any football fan that used to go in those days will tell you of the odd games when it felt dangerously crowded, especially being a kid rammed up aginst those bloody fences.

I am sure my older brother was mascot for this game. It was the game when vince and Billy Gilbert made their first return to selhurst. They were flying high pompey, and it was a cracking atmosphere, on a wet day. Sure this was 3pm saturday kick off not evening bubbs??
Love these pictures bubbs, bring back some right memories, the one of jim cannon, looks like a still from the temptation of christ!

That Cannon shot is a classic from such an embarrassing day too. In some ways losing 5-0 to Wimbledon at home was more painful than 9-0 away to Liverpool.

Our first win of the season after 7 attempts, and started a run of 6 wins out of 7 - the only defeat being that incredible 5-4 defeat at Blackburn.
