I really want Cabaye to sign, he would be awesome for us, but I do worry that if we bring in a star on massive wages (massive compared to the current lads anyway) then the likes of Bolasie, Punch and others might get annoyed and that could affect their play.....I dont think they would deliberately play worse, but it would surely affect them.

I know we need to do it at some point, and the time is probably now, but still worrying in my mind.

So you think we shouldn't progress in terms of quality of signings for fear of upsetting the players that are already here? If that really is the case then expect a gradual, or possibly rapid, slide to relegation whilst the Bournemouth's of this world go marching past us. If professional footballers can't handle players that are bigger, and possibly better, joining their club then they're in the wrong job.

I think if you read what I wrote I quite clearly state that I do think we should be trying to sign the like of Cabaye, and I think now is the time to do it.

I was simply pointing out that in the back of my mind I am a little worried that bringing in big names on big wages might affect our other players.

I never once said that I dont think we should sign bigger and better players.

An announcement on players coming in may be made when the new shirt sponsors are announced. New players are usually photographed with a club shirt, and a new sponsor will want their logo showing. Hopefully Cabaye will be holding a new shirt in the next day or two.

I don't think there's snowballs chance in hell of signing Cabaye. He'll be off to West Ham or Southampton.

West Ham odds falling all the time. I thought if he didn't come to us he'd end up somewhere like Spurs or Roma - if he picks West Ham over us I can only imagine they're offering better wages.

Wages

the Olympic stadium

European football (which will help his chances making the French squad)

A squad of internationals

I literally have no idea why we think we are a better proposition than West Ham (as much as i hope he comes to us).

We've got a better team? A squad full of internationals and yet they have still finished below us for two seasons. I think you are largely underestimating us

They shouldn't be able to pay bigger wages either

He's got a higher level of European football at PSG which he has appeared in. I don't think going out in the group stage of the Europa League will greatly enhance his chances of international recognition

Olympic Stadium is a possible draw for him, at a stretch

Why would they not be able to pay higher wages ? They get far bigger crowds may 40% or 50% more and have a bigger sponsor...ours is perhaps the lowest sponsorship deal in the league.

In addition West Ham have appeared in how many cup finals and won some.

Now I dislike West Ham but unless you have red and blue glasses on its easy to see their attraction.

I am sure that this has already been posted in other threads (and possibly at some point in this one), but there is still a long way to go in this transfer window.

Plenty of time for 2-3 quality additions. If it is not Cabaye, there are plenty more fish in the sea.

True, but the season starts in one month and given our first six games you would ideally want new signings sooner rather than later so they can gel with the rest of the squad and be ready for Norwich away which is the kind of game we need to be winning even though it's only the first game. We don't want to be going into that game shoving 3 new signings in who turned up 5 days beforhand.

Fair point. IMO the quality of players we are being linked with is as good as we have seen in any recent transfer windows. Players like that should be able to gel in what is already a good side with good morale.

I think you are wrong. I think he will sign for us.
