Trippier and Wood have the same agent, maybe he’ll move a few more of his players in there.

Wood is a superb signing; arguably the best any club will make this window. Why? The reason is simple. 1. He's better than Newcastle have now so any goal or assist or contribution he makes is an improvement on the team before he arrived and 2. Every goal, assist or contribution he doesn't make for Burnley, realistically Newcastle's biggest rival for survival, is also points won for Newcastle, even if he actually never plays for Newcastle themselves. Simply by depriving Burnley of Wood Newcastle are in the black. You can see whatever he does for them as a bonus. This transfer is the definition of a six-pointer and for that reason, it's well worth the outlay. It's also a very shrewd signing in that Newcastle identified a player they could sign without being held to ransom over the fee. They simply activated the release clause in his contract and signed him with no haggling at all. For a club rightly accused of chucking money at problems, that's a smart way to do business whether you think Wood is worth the amount of the release clause or not.

This is all true unless Burnley use the money gained to make themselves a better team and if Wood doesn't perform. Wood, according to Burnley fans, has been poor this season and his stats back that up. He's been accused of lacking focus and possibly a disruptive influence. The assumption among some quarters is that Wood will just go to Newcastle and regain his form. The thing is, Newcastle are 17th in the PL for number of crosses (Burnley are fifth), which is an issue when you sign a big lump. Trippier should improve those stats, but I think they will need to sign another winger or attacking full-back for them to get the real benefit from Wood.

Just for fun, you can compare Benteke and Wood's stats this season [Link] with Christian coming out top in nearly every metric

The new stars Trippier and Wood on parade today.

But Ranieri spoils the party a very late Watford equaliser.

And Norwich beat Everton.

Watford richly deserved their point. I don’t usually celebrate a Watford goal…but I did today!

Me too, a draw was the best possible result, did neither side any favours.

Newcastle made so many mistakes in dangerous areas that Watford really should have made more of. Against a more clinical team they would have lost. Newcastle also continued to play through the lines as if they didn't have a big lump up top. I don't remember a single cross of note coming in from open play either? ASM once again dug them out of a hole.

Personally I haven't seen any improvement since Bruce left. Burnley play Watford on Tuesday and it feels like Newcastle really need to win at Leeds. Based on yesterday I just don't see that happening, especially with Bamford seemingly about to return. Lose to Leeds and Everton and who the hell is going to want to move there?

Sadly Newcastle have some very winnable games coming up next though;
Leeds, Everton, Villa, West Ham, Brentford & Brighton are their next six league opponents.

Do you watch football? If so, which bit of you thinks West Ham, Villa, or Brighton represents "winnable" opposition for Newcastle in their present state? Of those five, I'd say only Everton is obviously "winnable" and they'll have a new manager bounce, for whatever that's worth.

Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God.

No need to be such a condescending p***k. Did you see West Ham’s performance today?

I'm the polar opposite and can't see them picking up much & dare I say possibly very little from their next few games.
Leeds Utd AWAY L
Everton HOME (New manager bounce) D
Aston Villa HOME L
West Ham AWAY L
Brentford AWAY L
Brighton HOME D
