Leach out of the Ashes series apparently, lower back stress fracture sounds nasty.

Unfortunate for him, but opportunity knocks.

How does a spinner manage that? I don't want to be rude, but I don't particularly think he was scaring the Aussies anyway.

The Ashes are upon us!

Australia look quite formidable to me, bowling and batting strength in depth.

McGrath already forecasting a 0-5 Aussie win, others mainly go for Oz but there are a few including Michael Vaughan who think we could nick it.

Fitness comes into the equation for me, and home advantage if we can get friendly pitches.

Bazball is also at stake.

Let the Aussies run their mouths off. They always do anyway. I'm watching a replay of the Test final - a lot of posturing and waving and asking for reviews. How unusual for the Aussies to behave like that. Talking to an Indian friend the other day, we were laughing how Australia are bigger cheats than pakistan.

I fear for England in The Ashes, I think they could get blown away.

Our bowling lineup is way too light. stokes can't bowl that much and Ali hasn't really bowled at all (hardly bowled in the IPL was used as a batter). We should have left out Brook and played Wood.

Speaking of Brook, his comments at press conference wasn't wise saying he was going to take on Nathan Lyon. He should have kept quiet, all he has now done is motivate the Aussies more, and they don't need any extra motivation.

I fear for Crawley, Pope and Brook, I don't think they will be able to handle the Aussie quicks. Brook went to play in big bash a year or two ago, and did absolutely nothing. It's great getting big scores on the slow pitches of the sub continent, but this is a whole new ball game. Let's face it Keaton Jennings could get big scores on slow pitches, but awful on quick bouncy pitches.

I hope I am proven wrong.

Be nice if any of the commentators supported England.

A couple of iffy decisions from Erasmus. Pope was more understandable but not giving Crawley out was baffling.

124-3 Root still there.

England playing well last ball before lunch got Crawley.

Aussies clearly a step up for us, you can't drop your level of concentration for a moment.

Its better than 24-3 that's for sure.

What's our middle order like we will soon find out.

I'm thinking 350+ looks doable - perhaps 390 odd.. The lack of bounce makes scoring quite difficult. The ball is not coming onto the bat. Aussie attack not that quick or aggressive. They're bowling like New Zealand or Sri Lanka. If England don't go with bazball, there's probably a single available off almost every ball.

Erasmus? Pope? Is this a cricket match or a grand Catholic gathering?

I was going to say it's the Council of Trent Bridge, but as it's at Edgbaston that doesn't really work.
